Yeah, not like the original was some big smash hit with brand recognition - adding Sicario to it seems pretty abitrary.

Cool trailer though, loved the first one.

I finally got around to watching the trailer, and I'm not impressed. I loved Sicario, and I really don't think it needed the sequel. This just seems unnecessary and the title change is stupid.

Now I can't shake what Double Toasted said about this looking like Man on Fire either. They're right.

Might just be a matter of how this marketing is being cut. I've been impressed by Sherridan's writing in everything else he's done thus far.

Man, I do hope this will live up to its predecessor. Maybe most of the action shots are included in the trailer to attract filmgoers. Taylor Sheridan has a great track record so far so I'll give him that. I can live with the title I suppose.

Soldado = Soldier

Sicario 2: Soldado
Hitman 2: Soldier (a bit lame)

Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado
Hitman 2: Day of the Soldier (not bad I suppose)

I would have still left it at Soldado myself.

Also, living up to Jóhann Jóhannson's amazing score is going to be no easy feat, but in the wake of his shock passing last month, at least somebody who collaborated with him frequently (Hildur Guðnadóttir) will continue from where he left off in this sequel. And I wonder if Denis Villeneuve will consider working with her in the future too.

I still think this looks pretty good. Losing Villeneuve and Deakins is a big shame... but Sheridan is a top, top writer and Graver and Alejandro are cool characters that I'd like to see more of.

The title change is stunningly stupid though. Typical Hollywood exec think tank idiocy.

Yes it is. I don't know about this yet. Like most of us have said the writer still gives faith, but something about the plot kind of gets a meh reaction from me. Also i can really tell I'm gonna miss that Denis and Deakins touch.

Sheridan is a great writer, but I doubt he's above turning out a meh script for some more money. I don't know, I'm still nervous.

And I also realised that along with Blunt not appearing in the sequel, Daniel Kaluuya won't be there either - but it's not like there's any going to be any need for him to be in there anyway.

And while also losing Jóhann Jóhannson (RIP) and Roger Deakins, Dariusz Wolski appears quite capable anyway, having filmed The Martian and Crimson Tide for example. Looks like he's worked with Ridley Scott quite a number of times there too.

One of the things that sold me on Sicario was the interesting dynamic between Kate and Alejandro. Not having that will be strange.

LOL! And that's her real name. Maybe her agent only pursues roles where she gets to keep her real name.


Anyway, this looks intense but it also reminds me of 75% of the other action movies I've seen in the past 20 years: the hero goes into a dangerous environment, kills a bunch of bad guys, rescues someone (usually a woman or a child) and then finds himself protecting her from threats from all sides. Maybe there's more to it, but right now, the plot feels very generic.

I also worry that a film coming out like this right now will just end up being fuel for the "Let's execute all the drug dealers!" crowd.
