Hey gang,

I got a job as a reporter in Inuvik, NWT. That's almost in the arctic circle!

I just wanted to say, it's cool how the Internet allows me to live in a small place (ie: pop. 3000) in the North, but still keep up to date on comics and stuff.

I can even mail order!

It's so great I can get stuff like "Nextwave" shipped up here...

So, I guess the question is: Does it really matter where you live, if your hobbies are internet-based? Does anyone have any questions about living in the Arctic?

I have a question....why the hell would you move all the f***ing way up there?!

Yes, odd choice.

i would love to know everything about it .. i would love to have that chance but probably not brave enough to take it .. tell me anything interesting about where you are?

I moved here because it's a great place to start as a reporter. Interesting people, good locations for photos (ie: mostly aboriginal communities, northern landscapes, etc.) and lots of responsibility. (ex: whereas you are the "small events" guy in a big city, I here get to cover the big stuff, like a murder trial which happened..)

Right now, there is 24 hours of sunlight. You can be outside at 2am, and it's like it was 2pm, it makes no difference. I had to put tin-foil over my windows!

Inuvik has about 3000 people, so it's very small. I like this, because it means you can walk everywhere in about 5 minutes: The grocery store, the bank, the gym, the library, etc.

So: To answer your question, I moved here because the pay is good and it allows me to start as a Bureau Chief (sounds big, ha ha) rather than a bottom-of-the-pyramid guy.

I guess if I had to describe this town, it would be like living on a college campus. Sure it's small, but everything you do is central.

Interesting fact: The pool here is decorated all tropical; they have water slides and even fake palm trees (!) and a sauna. That's going to help in the winter.

Amazingly enough, the library also had "Earth X" and "Kingdom Come," not to mention for Green Lantern books and Ultimate fantastic Four Vol. 1. That was pretty cool!

I started a blog, at www.inuvikpm.blogspot.com

Hey. Where do you guys go to the bathroom in an igloo?

Wowzer. o_O

I hope the best of luck to you.
Do good as a reporter. :)
