Songs: The Original Vs. The Cover

I just listened to the original "Mad World" by Tears for Fears... needless to say, Gary Jules really made diamonds outta coal with that one.

I've always said that Marilyn Manson wouldn't be very relevant if it weren't for his covers. "Sweet Dreams" & "Personal Jesus" were good ones. His "Tainted Love" cover was alright, but my favorite?

Also dig HIM's cover of "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak. Here's a link since embedding is disabled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSOKIAP3rgo

I love his 'This is Halloween' - it's so appropriately creepy.

My favourite cover has always been Clapton's cover of Johnston's song Crossroads which was done live at Winterland. Other similar covers were done by Led Zeppelin but they ould also be jusged to be adaptations.

I like Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal way more than the original by Wacko Jacko.

Pearl Jam's Last Kiss is better than the original from the 50/60s imo

The Kidz bop version of Lollipop though is freaking hilarious!

Ok, this one just pisses me off.

LOL. I have no words for the Jesse McCartney cover.

You decide. I had to laugh at how hard they avoided saying the word "Hammer".

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want (1984) by The Smiths

Cover by The Dream Academy (1985)

Instrumental cover, also by The Dream Academy (from Ferris Bueller's Day Off - 1986)

how crazy, i was just thinking of bumping this thread the other day or starting a new one.

Tracy Chapman's song Fast Car literally plays on the work radio every day. but i've never really given it much thought. it's just always been there.

HOWEVER!

the first time i head Black Puma's version, i can remember myself driving in my car and just taking notice of it. love everything about it. can't explain it. maybe it's his voice, the delivery, simplicity? i don't know. but it's one of the only singles i've ever bought on iTunes.

The original always makes me cry. Tracy’s voice is incredible, so moving. Cover is good too! Just a great song in general.

I love covers, listen to a lot of them as I like hearing songs interpreted in different ways. These 3 always stand out amongst others as my favourites

This is one of my favorite LeAnn Rimes songs:

song came out around 1996-ish? anyways, i was young, it's catchy etc

BUT,

since i heard this arrangement a few days ago, i've prob listened to it 20 times.

its a total plus that Ashley McBryde is one of my fave up and comers. she's so underrated.
