Sony Animation Presents....Emoji!

The film is currently at $145 million worldwide. Given that level of BO success and all of the tie-in products that can and will be sold to kids, I'll be shocked if this doesn't become a franchise.

It's going to top $160 million in total BO earnings. Despite a well-documented down summer for movie releases, Emoji has had some legs.

I saw this on Netflix and it wasn't that bad. It was clearly aimed at smartphone savvy kids and there was no pretense of appealing to the non-target audience, which explains some of the critical backlash.

Here's my philosophy: if something's aimed at kids and solely at kids, it doesn't excuse the movie not giving one single s*** and being incredibly shallow and empty, not to mention clearly a 90-minute advertisement.

You're literally using the excuse of "it's for kids, so it doesn't have to try".
