"We are getting a second shipment next week, probably around the middle of next week," Matt Levitan , marketing and public relations manager for Sony Computer Entertainment of Canada, told CBC News Online on Friday. "We'll know by Monday or Tuesday when they will be available.

"We are flying in shipments from Japan and China, and will probably ship them directly to retail" instead of to Sony's warehouses, he said.

Levitan expects four or five shipments before the end of the calendar year, estimating each batch will be the equivalent of a quarter of the units available at launch.

Well, I have to hand it to them on this if it's true. While their opening numbers were way low, they are definately trying to redeem themselves. It wil be interesting to see if this actuially holds up though.

Alright, so if they're going to increase their overall units out by what, 25% in the course of a week, then why didn't they push launch back a week or two and potentially up their systems by half by the Holiday season.

does it really matter? people are still gonna want it, no matter how many units are available.

Yeah, but they would've made a lot of their fans happier if they pushed the releases back a week or two to have more systems readily available.. It would've driven scalpers prices way down, which would've lowered their incentive to wait in line... It would've made their fans so much happier.

I mean, do they intentionally try to piss off their fanboys? Honestly?

100k a week will never happen. They couldn't even meet their initial shipment estimate after a month or two, they aren't going to be able to pull this off out of the blue.

You're really reaching. Japan launched with close to 100k, America was suppose to be around 400k but it will probably end up being a bit lower. I think that's where the misconception thing is.

Well good! That means my Circuit City should be getting an average of....1-2 PS3s in every week??

Wow! Might match the amount of launch XBOX360s we got by Christmas! :down

Xbox 360 launched with 325k. Your math is flawed.

XBOX 360 launched in my store with 12 systems: 8 Premium, 4 Core

PS3 launched yesterday with 6 systems: all 6 being $600 versions

So if my store gets 1/4 the amount of our launch numbers each week, it'll take 4 weeks (1 month) to get 6 more, which would put it equal to the number of XBOX360s we launched with.

How am I reaching? If they released about 400k units on launch in the US and next week are shipping 100k new systems, they'd have increased the number of the product on the market by 1/4... aka 25%. It says it in the article. If they just waited 2 weeks longer they could've shipped out 600k units out which would please their fans and stull capitalize upon the Holiday rush.

Yeah, but those were fans that are going to buy the system no matter what. By having all those lines, and the ebay fiasco, Sony has gotten a ridiculous amount of press for the system that has made the non-fanboys even want it.

I wouldn't say that the press would be all too good considering everytime I saw it on the news was because of violence. Most things I've heard around the internet was from pissed off fans that got screwed over because of scalpers. You'd just think that if it was possible to make a more positive buying experience for your most hardcore fans who are willing to wait outside for 2 days just by waiting an extra week or two, they'd do it.. That's all I'm saying.

They're still going to be able to capitalize on the christmas rush because they're going to have the same number of units available reguardless and every single one is going to sell. You can put the "why not delay by 1-2-3 weeks" arguement at every company including Microsoft who is pretty much in line with what Sony is shipping durring the same period (Launch). In the end it doesn't really matter, coporately, and 97 percent of those pissed off fanboys that didn'tg et one are still going to get one.

If Sony hadn't launched this week then they would have lost more time being visible in the market during the gift buying period. You want to have your product on the shelf for the longest period possible to maintain awareness. Also launching with less supply and giving just enough shipments over the course of the launch window helps maintain hype and yet again, exposure within the 'gamer hivemind'.

I say they only launched this way to beat out Wii, even if by a few days. If they had delayed the shipment a week or two to have a couple hundred thousand more units, they still would have sold them all. They aren't making any more money by doing it this way. They just wanted to one up Nintendo.

The lady at our Wal-Mart's electronics dep. told me to come in on monday because they can hook me up with a raincheck. It might be a month or so before i get the sacred hardware, but it's better than having to look for it.

Yeah, but Microsoft wasn't shipping out 100k units a week later, that's the difference. I know people who didn't get a PS3 are still going to get one.. That's not what I meant. What I meant is that they pissed off their most dedicated gamers which kind of sucks. I know they'll still get a system but Sony created an environment for scalpers to thrive when they could've avoided it by pushing back launch 1 or 2 weeks.

Sony isn't going to be visible in the market. :o All the systems are going to fly off the shelves and it's still going to be IMPOSSIBLE to find before the holiday. Having your product on the shelf longer isn't going to create more or less hype if no one can find it.

well im hoping the second shipmeant units have some fixed bugs.

Best Buy near my job had 34 systems on launch day

Thanks Zenien for posting this!!!! I'm so excited now, maybe i'll be playing Resistance: Fall of Man sooner than I thought!!! Hopefully they get them on tuesday seeing how we have a week off of school for break. Man i'll just play Resistance day and night.

So does anyone know when this next shipment is? I've been looking and calling places however none of them have even heard that Sony was doing a second shipment. Hopefully I can get my Playstation 3 soon, I really want to play Resistance. :(

The new estimate for the amount of PS3's that were actually shipped in the first week of release was downscaled to about 200,000. If anyone's reaching here, Zen, it's you. :o

Yes, more will be coming this week. It doesn't change the fact that the NA release numbers were absolutely pitiful.. capping probably around 250k.

Sony really did have their heads' up their asses, this time around. :o
