Sony is much worst than Microsoft will ever be

There is already a discussion about this in the Ghostbusters thread. This seems like a failed attempt at baiting.

I don't understand what makes it so bad. Why is it when Microsoft uses Bill Gates' billions to buy the exclusive rights it is just "smart business," but when Sony does it it is being "*****ey?"

I didn´t knew there was already a discussion about it.
And it´s not a baiting attempt, it´s just that i just found it out and was mesmerized by the sheer stupidity of it all.

I believe your missing the point.
The game rights were bought by Atari when Activision closed Sierra.
The game was a multiplatform that many hyped for.
But, now, in the most ridiculous move i´ve ever saw, Sony bought the exclusive rights for Europe.

I can understand it being timely exclusive (it is stupid nontheless because it wasn´t yesterday)
The game goes from being multiplatform to being a PS3 exclusive in one region.
Basically, Sony a**-raped gaming fans, Microsoft Europe, Nintendo Europe, PC Europe and Atari.

Exclusives and timed exclusives are nothing new, and Sony and Microsoft have both paid for both.

Ok, for one thing, Microsoft did almost this exact same thing in Europe with Rock Band. They didn't publish the game, but they worked with EA to get the 360 version out before the other EU versions. MS wouldn't pull that; utter and total hogwash.

Secondly, the game is not an exclusive to the PS brand in Europe, it is a timed exclusive in the EU and will not be a timed exclusive for the US;

Atari is still publishing the NA region versions of the game which will all be released on June 16th

Yep, Rock Band PS3 users got screwed over here.

Oh and I'll weep for MS when I get my GTAIV and Fallout DLC.

Next time you put a source, read it.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it will be publishing Ghostbusters in Europe this June, meaning that the game is now a PS3 and PS2 exclusive in the region.

I have nothing more to say about the subject.

No Microsoft never did it, no gaming company ever did it, just to ****** one called Sony, that took a multiplatform game and made exclusive for one region.

The game is delayed in Europe, later stories confirm this. Calm down.

Heh. Not going to happen. Microsoft didn't just pay for exclusivity rights for that DLC. They funded it. Like, if they didn't pay for it, it wouldn't exist in any form, period.

That's why it was a joke man!!! :(

Exactly, but people seem to be really thick about it.
If you guys really believe that Microsoft bought the DLC after they were made, the bad guys here is Bethesda and Rockstar, and, do you actually believe that they are?

I don't see why you care so much anyway, IH. Its only fecking Ghostbusters, not like I dunno... a good game or something.

You're acting like Sony are bringing down the games industry from within or something. Every company does crap like this, its just not always as public as this. Its called business.

What's the next ****ing line say?:

Eurogamer has confirmed with Atari that the deal is for timed exclusivity on Sony platforms, with all other versions being released "later in the year." It's certainly a strange move on Atari's part, especially when limiting their potential consumer base is being called "maximizing the launch of the Ghostbusters videogame across Europe" by Atari's VP of Worldwide Marketing. Pushing non-Sony versions further towards or, even worse, into Q4 won't do the 360, Wii and DS versions any favors
.

What's the magic word? Hint; it's timed.

Next time you try to discredit a source, try to read the whole article. Better yet try reading the other article I posted, of course it's harder to take that one out of context isn't it?

Here, I'll turn another one into the fire:

It's been a big day for Ghostbusters news, starting with rumors that Sony would be publishing the game, snatching exclusivity for their platforms. As it turns out the rumors were only half-correct, as Sony is publishing it in European and PAL regions, and the exclusivity is apparently timed. We have no word on when the Xbox 360, PC, or Wii versions will hit in Europe. It will release for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 on June 19 overseas, near the release of the 25th anniversary Blu-ray for the original movie. The press release also teases a previously rumored PSP version of the game coming in the fall.

Also, nice how you totally dodged the US timed exclusive deal.

I have nothing more to say about the subject.

Also, Sony is the holder of the rights. Columbia owns the Ghostbuster franchise, Columbia is owned by Sony. Atari only had the publishing rights to the game. As you'll see in the kotaku source, this all came when Sony operated a clause within the contract between the two.

Yeah, Sony ass-raped a lot of gamers, that's true. In the same way that Microsoft ass-raped a lot of gamers when they bought exclusive content for Fallout & GTA. Same way they ass-raped a lot of gamers by buying timed exclusives of games that were meant to be multiplatformed to begin with. Same way they ass-raped a lot of gamers when they did almost the exact same thing with Rock Band in the EU.

I care because i wanted it (if the game is any good, that is).
And sure, every comapny has tactics, but to actually take a multiplatform game and turn it into exclusive for one region, that´s just a crappy move.
Now, if the case was, to make it timely exclusive...sure, i can go with that, it was too late in the game to make it so, but ok.

This move just shows how desperate Sony is becaming, that they are willing to f**k everyone just so that people that want the game will buy a PS3.
The way i see it, it can end being more harmful than good, because it can very well turn people against Sony.
That is, people that have a 360, people that have a Wii, people that wanted to buy the PC version, people that are thinking on buying a 360, people that are thinking on buying a Wii....and list goes on.

No, but why do you think they help fund? Of course, that would have nothing to do with the hope that the content will be exclusive to their console.:whatever:

Must have missed my earlier post, because it is already established that this is not an exclusive for any region

Ok, you win, and i´m glad you did.
And when i said that Sony was ass-raping everyone, i was talking about the fact it was exclusive in Europe.
As timely...it´s just half ass-raped, because we know that it will be released for the other platforms later.
And yeah, Microsoft did that with several games.

About the Fallout 3 and GTA DLC....read my and Pandamar141 posts.
Microsoft didn´t bought exclusive rights for the DLC, they funded it, it was made with their money, without it, the DLC wouldn´t have been made in the first place.
If you think otherwise, the bad guys here are Bethesda and Rockstar.
Are you expecting that Microsoft will make "games" for the PS3?

I have a hard time believe that all the DLC would not have existed without MS. Especially as far as Fallout 3 is concerned. Bethesda did a similar situation in creating expansions for Elder Scrolls and then releasing it as DLC over Live, albeit F3 is more cut down into smaller pieces of expansions, but it's still the same concept. The PS3 version eventually got all of that content when it was released, so MS wasn't the driving force behind that. With or without MS I guarntee we'd being seeing similar DLC for that game, but it would probably just be in one big chunk as opposed to bit by bit.

As far as GTA is concerned I don't know that situation, you may be right on that. I never read that MS was the driving force behind it or anything, but I can't as certain as I am with Bethesda and F3

Coupled with what I said above, that means that MS either knew what Bethesda was planning or either knew they were planning something, so decided to step in earlier to fully or partially fund it and get exclusive rights to it. Even if Bethesda was going to do full blown expansions instead of episodic stuff and release it for everyone eventually, no way they're going to turn down that cash

Nonsense, of course it will happen. Rockstar and Bethesda (especially Bethesda) have proven time and time again how little exclusivity deals mean to them. By this time next year there will be a GTA:IV Director's Cut, complete with The Lost and The Damned and the 3rd Episode all one disc released for PS3 as well as a Fallout III Game of the Year Edition with The Pitt, Brotherhood of Steel, and Operation Anchorage on the disc.

I would say the same, but as said, MS has put a lot of funding into those projects, so most likely they have some contractual rights to the content. It's like Gears Of War coming to the PS3, the possibility is technically there, but there would be so much unbreakable red tape and impossible negotiations for it to actually happen it never would. Well, unless MS deems that there's no point in keeping it, but that's pretty unlikely

Sony is worse than MS will ever be bc they secured a timed exclusivity deal? Are you kidding me? How about all the timed exclusivty and flat out exclusive deals that MS has secured for its system?

This "exclusive" business isn't anything new. As far as I know, it goes to back to the NES and the Master System. And in all likelyhood it probably goes back further.

Ugh...Can we all just agree that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are all fillled with greedy sons of *****es and be done with it?
