Writers and director of Venom? **!%@#^^@!

An American film adaptation of a beloved anime produced by probably the dumbest studio in Hollywood written and directed by the Venom guy.

Sounds about right for the world we live in.
To put the record straight, The director of Venom doesn't have anything to do with this. Its only the writers, who also wrote the 2 new jumanji movies, so I think theres hope for a competent enjoyable film. I feel like the tone of those movies could work pretty well with a live action One Punch Man.

I look forward to the debate videos with people defending the casting of a non-Japanese Saitama, pointing out how that the world in One Punch Man isn't technically the real world, and the continent in the show isn't actually Japan or like Earth's Japan.

I am not really follow the manga nor the anime but I am excited nonetheless..

The news became trending topic in where I live as this is one of the most popular modern manga in Japan.

But then...I read that the creative producers behind this is the one who makes Ghost In the Shèll...that perhaps what worries me and lots of fans here more than casting a non native Japan actor for playing the main lead. (Same with Ghost In the Shell, the casting is not really big issue among fans in Japan... since this is a Hollywood production, of course we already expecting the American casts to play it).

I just wish Avi Arad can follow the spirit of the manga, and I will be more than satisfy.

Avi Arad produced Ghost in the Shell.

Thing is that i can see this actually work, more than any other manga adaption.
I think in terms of visuals or so, One Punch Man gives you a lot more freedom to work with then lets say One Piece or Naruto, DBZ or so.

But of course when it comes to stuff like that, im carefull...hopefull but carefull.

I'm not hopeful. One Punch Man can't be done with a cheap budget. Secondly, it's very quirky and sometimes offbeat.

IMHO One Punch Man to me is like if the Coen Bros. did a Japanese anime about comic book superheroes.

Most of the big fights are built around how do we keep the main guy out of the picture since he ends the fights in about a second.

A live action version would basically be like a Deadpool/Scott Pilgrim type thing, that's the only way I could see it working unless they just try and play it more straight, but it's more of a superhero comedy than anything.

Avi Arad produced Ghost in the Shell.

Oh yes I aware that.
That is why I wrote that is what worries me the most about this movie.

Judging from Ghost In The Shell, I am not quite sure he is really a fan of this property.
I also remember now that he is the one who will produce Naruto (thanks, ironwez20). Seems like since he is out from Marvel Studios, Avi Arad has targeting from anime/manga property.

If they embrace the tongue in cheek and craziness like Deadpool did, it will be a smash hit.
But if they try to reimagine it, like so many studios and directors do with a property, then it's doa.

I think, if you’re going to get a director to concentrate and adapt something like this into a big budget Hollywood film, Justin Lin is a pretty good choice.

Honestly, the concept of the original source material is pretty straightforward enough. What matters, I think, is getting the tone right, and balancing the insanity of all of the crazy superhero type stuff with the casual, everyday, civilian, conversational and philosophical stuff.

With the Fast 5, we know he can definitely pull off the crazy action. But, as shown with Star Trek Beyond, particularly with that opening scene of him narrating a short montage of the growing monotony of daily life on the Enterprise, and him contemplating mortality with Bones, he can definitely do the heartfelt and down-to-earth stuff. I mean, that monologue almost feels like something Saitama would narrate to the audience, only with some different words and in space on a starship.

I feel slightly OK about this. We’ll see how it goes.

Vin Diesel about to upload a video to IG about how he’ll be expecting a call while a traumatized Tyrese silently weeps in the background.
$20 says Lin puts a Vin expy getting killed in the movie.

There's no point in making this movie if you ditch the satirical elements and try to play this straight.

My hope is that with Justin Lin directing the movie they will actually consider casting an Asian leading actor for Saitama. And before anyone tries to say "well it's not set in Japan or real-world blah blah blah" the character's real name is literally SAITAMA. The super-continent of the world in the story is modeled after the Saitama prefecture in Japan.

In other words, don't try and cast Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pratt in the lead.

This could be a chance to satirize and skewer the whole superhero genre and have some fun at its expense.
