The Talisman still alive...

IGN has talked to Frank Marshall and also checked with him about the movie version of The Talisman. Here is what he said:

IGN: And I have to ask this because I'm a huge fan of the book. Any word on that long-in-development adaptation of Stephen King's The Talisman?

MARSHALL: Yes, there is! It's back to being a movie. It's kind of on the backburner since we're waiting to see how everything shakes out with the DreamWorks, Paramount, Amblin thing.

Massive King fan here! never too keen on The Talisman... BUt, I'm glad it's being made because it makes it more likely of there being a sequel: Black House.

Also I'd just like to mention that these books were not written JUST by King - he collaborated with Peter Straub on both books.

As soon as IT became a success, I knew this was gonna move way up on the list of King properties that would find their way to the screen.

Get me this and Black House and I'll be in flavour country.

Awesome. The Talisman's one of my favorites.

Yes please. Hopefully dont have the same fate as the Stand

I thought after IT's success, The Stand would get the greenlight.

The Stand needs to be a cable or Netflix or Amazon miniseries. A 150 minute film just isn't going to adequately cover that story. If they broke it into 2 films, with the first film ending when they get to the FreeZone and meet Abigail, I think it could work. But as a single film I'd rather they not even try.

Solo film wouldn't be the right way to go, but I also don't think the story lends itself to a multi-film approach. Even if stuff can afford to get cut, something episodic feels like the way to go.

I'd give it to Starz. Most of their shows run for roughly 3-4 seasons max, which is roughly the right amount you'd want from the Stand without stretching it out too much like what happened with the Strain.

You could nail The Stand in a single season.

You certainly could, though realistically I would imagine that any place that picks up the Stand would want it for the long term. It's been said broke that a place like HBO, for instance, usually expect at least a 5 season plan for new properties.

I hope they do a good job with this. It's pretty complicated. :(

With some adjusting I think you could make a trilogy out of it. The book is split into three parts anyway (though the third is much shorter), and the story is basically King's Lord of the Rings. If each film was 150 minutes you'd really have the space to flesh out the characters. Josh Boone said at one point that the studio was interested enough to do four films out of it, but that seems like overkill.

I'd rather see multiple movies than to gut it so badly to fit it into just one. :(

Josh Boone posted this storyboard from The Talisman on Instagram today.

Looks like something out of a graphic novel. Not a storyboard.

IT states he asked his storyboard artist to work on his illustrated screenplay. I guess as a proof of concept.

Probably right about it being proof of concept.
