What do you think the projected timeline for Spider-Man 3 is? 2021/22? Disney/Marvel have two July dates booked in the future one in July 31, 2021 and another for July 29, 2022.

I've seen mixed answers when it comes to who actually schedules the spider-man movies whether its Sony or Disney. When Spidey joined the MCU Disney shifted the entire phase 3 schedule to make room. It was given top priority.

I wonder if Disney has reserved these dates as a just in case for Sony. Since Spider-Man typically opens in July and knowing they have to have a movie every two years. How often has the MCU actually had releases in July? it does seem a bit odd. since the big MCU films typically open in April/May. Marvel has used July only 3 times. Once in 2011 with The First Avenger. In 2015 with Ant-Man. And 2018 with Ant-Man and The Wasp. 4 I guess if you count Homecoming last July.

Sony schedules the solo movies...which is why Disney shifted around it's schedule to accommodate Homecoming. When Homecoming and Far From Home were announced, they were announced by Sony not Disney.

Having said that Far From Home is the last movie in the Disney/Sony deal. Since the deal hasn't been renewed yet, Disney is not accounting for a 3rd Spider-Man movie at this time. Which is why there are 3 untitled Marvel movies in both 2021 and 2022 (the time frame a Spidey sequel would release) instead of 2 in one of those years.

I wonder how much money will have to be thrown at the situation to get Spidey to stay in the MCU. Especially since they are hemorrhaging it at the moment.

May 4, 2007.

Oh, you're talking about Spider-Man 7? Probably 2022.

What is the payment deal on that, who pays what to whom and how do Disney / Marvel Studios extricate themselves fully from Sony and vice versa ?

At the moment Sony gets everything. For this deal to work moving forward however I think this has to change. They need to split it 50/50.

Sony also distributes and finances the movies and retains creative control. I find it difficult to believe the last one tho. considering how much MCU was in Homecoming and Iron Man being in a supporting role. I think more likelt Marvel studios has creative control but they cant say that because Sony still has the rights.

Well Marvel gets all of the merchandising profits for Spider-Man, so it's possible they will continue to play ball for a third film since they do get a benefit out of it.

And I'm guessing in return, Sony would also allow Marvel to use Spider-Man for another Marvel film or two.

So far everything has worked out great with the deal, so I see no reason not to renew it, at least for one more solo film to cap off the trilogy.

I wonder if they'll announce it in December again like they did with Far From Home in 2016.

Sony as it is gets nothing off merchandise for Spider-Man movies. Disney will never give that up as that is where the REAL money is made for him. So you're asking Sony to make even LESS money and give up MORE control to Disney. They will never do that. Either they would sell outright to Disney, extend this existing deal, or ask Disney for more compensation than just ticket prices. They won't give 50% of the ticket revenue to Disney. It makes no business sense.

Yeah, Sony would never split profits 50/50. I think it's a matter of Disney wanting to continue not profiting from Spider-Man solo films, but I don't think they care about that since they get merchandising profits. And they don't have to pay for the production/marketing/distribution costs.

I assume Sony gives marvel studios a fee or small cut for producing the film?

No, but they do pay for everything for the movie. Marvel gets 100% of the merch, Sony gets 100% ticket revenue.

So I guess the question is... how long will they keep this up for? Can they go for a third round and cap off a trilogy? I think a third film is likely, but beyond that, I have no idea. Maybe they will want to go ahead and make a fourth as well if they want to do something different.

Knowing Sony, if a third film is happening, I think we will get an announcement around the release of Far From Home.

The next step without getting the full rights is Disney getting the distribution rights. At that point they will basically own Spiderman without owning spiderman and Sony will have no choice but to work with Marvel.

I would love for that to happen. I don't think it will though.

2021 seems possible. I'm kind of more guessing when "GOTG VOL. 3" will be made or released with the Gunn fubar.

As far as Marvel's Spider-Man 3 goes, I hope they bring in new actors to play J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson and bring in Harry Osborn, Norman and a proper Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy.

When do you think Spider-Man 3 will be announced?

And let's say that the deal between Marvel and Sony ends, do you guys think that this will still be a sequel to Far From Home, or like a soft reboot with Tom Holland reprising the role?

Well, I suspect the deal is already done in principle...the two sides may just be putting the final, legal, wording in, preparing for signatures.

Fiege is not going to base their next Generation or Phase of films on Spidey kickstarting it off on an assumption with Amy(of all people) that all is good, w/o some legal standing in place. Otherwise, Fiege would simply have Spidey written out the MCU in one form or another.

I think Fiege has somekind of stipulated agreement with Amy/Sony, that Venom has to show it's worth, base on some set number from BO and marketing sales(toys, tie-in, dvd, apparel, etc) that shows significant interest. If the film reach whatever agreed criteria...than I suspect Sonyverse will indeed be adjunctive to the MCU; not fully tied to it(if that make sense). Also, I suspect the agreement detail some aid of somekind in casting, writing, production, etc.

Reason why Amy have not just come out full blast & spilled the beans completely; she is having to wait on the returns, before celebrating such a monumental deal. So she keep hinting at it, hoping for some boost in the numbers, from people who believe Venom is somehow tied to the MCU.

Could see the 2021 date for the threequel. or 2022. Would be painful, but they might.

It would be very strange for Phase 4 to start with Spider-Man: Far From Home, and immediately have the character exit the MCU. I think that they would at least have a third solo film planned out along with another MCU appearance.

At most, if the "Sony Universe of Marvel Characters" is tied to the MCU in any way, it would probably be like the Netflix Marvel shows. Technically in the MCU, but totally separate in terms of narrative, existing in it's own bubble. But I could imagine Spider-Man appearing in some of the SUMC movies.

Feige has no control or say on what happens in the Netflix shows or any MCU TV series. So it wouldn't be totally unheard of.

Exactly

I think "Spider-Man Homecoming 2" (before we got a title) was announced around the time we had a teaser for the first film.

Do you guys think the third movie would get announced around a similar time, or after the release of Far From Home (due to the contract ending)?
