Spider-Man 3:The Game Thread - Part 1

I don't know if this has been posted before if so I apologize.
I haven't heard anything about this game since E3 and am anxiously waiting news about this game.

I wanted to see if anyone has heard anything new or felt the same way I do...

I'm apparently one of the very few who loved this game when first played, and still love it.
Just finished it for the 42nd time, I really love it, it feels like having different experience in different gameplays, so this game got better for me after more replays.
I read some comments saying this is a watered down version of Spider-Man 2 from the same developers, I still can't agree with them, Spider-Man 2 obviously did some things in a better and more fun way, but the improvements in this game made it more fun than Spider-Man 2.

I wanted to play a sequel to this game, I still wonder if it would have been a good thing if we had one, if Raimi was allowed to direct his 4th movie, in 2 different scenarios:

A) Treyarch were still the developers, and Bobby Kotick did not decide their Spider-Man games after the first movie 1 game suck.

B) The game developed by Beenox, and we got that instead of Edge of Time, what was it going to be like? Would we still have Shattered Dimensions?

Just to give it my score.

As a product: 7.5/10

Fun level: 9/10
I'd give it a full 10 on fun if not for the annoyance in "Protect thing" segments, and if it had the variety of Spider-Man 2 and USM (and even the PS2 version) street missions.

From what I was told about it, Venom and Sandman story here came from the movie novelization.

Game did Sandman and Venom team up better than movie did lol.

Yep, which was based a previous of the script. They actually filmed a version of this "team up". Why they changed it...?

I like the team-up we had in film more for the film, although this one might have been a more convincing reason as to why Sandman was pounding Spider-Man to death, and after Venom's death Sandman went like "Oh God, this is wrong".

But for the game I'm glad we got this scene instead, for 30 seconds- 1 minute per cutscene there is no reason to add the sick daughter subplot.

This is one of the few Spidey games that I've never actually played before (along with Web of Shadows). Maybe I should give it shot someday.

Here are a few tips, from a Spider-Man 3 pro (I just finished the game 42 times, classic and new game+):
  1. Get the game on PC, it is the best port. Based on youtube videos I saw, the framerates on the PS3 version vary from one copy to another, some copies have fine framerate, other copies are too fast, it makes it annoying for the swing. I think one or two XBox gamers faced the speedy framerates thing, but not as many as PS3 gamers.
  2. Get a PC gamepad, it will be more comfortable to play Spidey using a gamepad, and don't forget the analog must be activated. On V-Max gamepads you see numbers for buttons on screen, but the gamepad shows you PS2 buttons, the numbers from 1-4 are the triangle, circle, cross, and square in this order during regular gameplay, the numbering goes the opposite way when you deactivate bombs, or stop the train cart near the end of the second Mad Bomber mission.
  3. If you change your keyboard controls for Spidey, Harry's controls in the last mission are on default, they are not reset to what you set up as Spider-Man controls. Spidey's controls remain as you set them up.
  4. On the pause screen, move the cursor twice right or left to see the change character menu, the Black Spider-Man is New Game+, it skips the tutorial and the first mission. You won't be able to play it before you beat Venom on regular game first. And because the Black Suit is New Game+, you won't be able to switch between suits during regular gameplay, unlike Web of Shadows.
  5. Some of the stages can be saved to be played after you beat Venom, but I would not recommend that on regular gameplay, because unlike the Arkham Asylum follow ups, the upgrades you get on your regular gameplay after ending the main campaign won't transfer to your new game+, and you can't upgrade in the New Game+ (except for the life and reflexe bars, and some speed and air tricks).
  6. Play the trick races before you unlock New Game+, they are useful to get speed and air trick upgrades. You'll need a trainer to pause time to play the hard races, cause some of them are insane.
  7. Bugle photo missions won't gave you upgrades (except for the one the will play first after you gain the symbiote in story mode), so those you can save until you beat the game. They are 5 missions (6 counting the Eddie mission), the third one is split to two.
  8. If you require a save file with fully upgraded reflex and health bars before any story or subplot missions start, add me on facebook, I will send you the save file there. PM me to ask about my facebook, or to link me to your facebook page so I can add you. I might also send you the trainer, and the no disc patch.
  9. Save the combat tours for after you get most combat upgrades, unlike what you see in most reviews about the combat being a button masher, there are certain tactics to beat certain enemies faster, take your time mastering the combat system.
  10. You will face some bugs in the game, some -like this- are harmless, others will be annoying, but they don't occur very often (from my experience), like the thug in the wall who can hit you, but you can hit back less, or not hit at all, don't go near those. I once had to restart the full mission cause Kingpin got stuck in the ceiling, and thankfully, in 42 times finishing the game, it only happened once. The one bug that occurs every time is the music and the voices stop working for a while, they work again fine after a while, or after restarting the game.
  11. Quick Time Events list

Don't bother with Web of Shadows. It terrible.
I thought of it that way for a while, then I thought the game is enjoyable, but still not good presentation of the character.
It is the most glitch ridden Spider-Man game (from my honest personal experience), and the story present Spidey as a fool just taking orders from everyone.
Overall gameplay is very formulaic, and there are very few things for the player to do.
Mechanics are fun and really good, minus the sub-par charged jump.

Not the first PS1 game.
Glad SM3 was not based on symbiotes.
