Warner dusts off the Spies
Date : February 8, 2007 Posted By : Clint Morris
When the studios head to the vaults for inspiration…. You never expect them to come back with an old Chevy Chase/Dan Ayrkoyd movie, do ya?

Inspiration has definitely dipped in Burbank, with Warner Bros championing a remake of a modestly successful John Landis comedy.

The film that introduced Donna Dixon’s buxom bosom the world, “Spies Like Us” (1985), a two-hander starring Chevy Chase and Dan Ayrkoyd as a couple of loser misfits who dwell in the lower ranks of the Central Intelligence Agency, is about to get the remake treatment. Warner teams with Imagine (yep, Brian Grazer’s a producer on it; change of pace for him, hey?) and Thunder Road on the pic.

Responsible for adding new life to the old concept are writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and Dave Mandel. The trio worked on the 2004 comedy “Euro Trip”, which wasn’t too bad, so ya never know… this might actually turn out all right

for the love of god....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

oh my dear sweet nectar.... not the irreplacable classic that is 'spies like us'!!!

ah!!!

ugh. i wish people would quit over reacting to things like this. i mean, you were never going to get a proper sequel, so you otherwise never would have heard from this movie franchise again, and a remake won't in any way change the original, other than the fact that you might get a decent dvd release of it to commmemorate the remake, and more people who never saw the original will check it out 'just to see' what's being remade, so whoever made that movie will get a bit more money... so... where's the bad?

just relax, take a deep breath, and realize that even if this remake blows goats, it doesn't matter at all.

/\ Let me guess your reason: NO MORE REMAKES! ?

Personally no feeling on it one way or another, as the, I believe, minority few, I'm in for a remake as long as it's a good film.

Why don't they just come out and say 'We're remaking all the Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis movies?' They could even do Stripes....hmmmm

Actually, Stripes may be the one movie of theirs that could work as a remake.

what other of their movies are they remaking? did i miss something?

and why in the world would stripes work more than the other ones?

Spies Like Us was a bad movie. John Landis will be the first to admit that. So, why are the remaking it? Unless they figured out how to turn it into a good movie starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

guess i DID overreact, but still...out of all the movies that could be remade...

....why this one?

I loved Spies Like Us. I don't see why it even needs to be remade. It's just sad.

HOORAY FOR REMAKES!

Seriously...I've only seen part of the movie...but I feel it doesn't need to be remade. Knowing the biz of today...it may be a waste of money.

Damn i just died a little inside when i heard this :csad:
Spies Like Us remains oneof my favorite comedy movies and everytime i watch it , it remains my of my years as a kid .

I won't scream death to WB immediatly since it's too early to see who's going to do what although the Eurotrip writers aren't exactly reassuring.
Departed was an excellent remake of Infernal affairs so i'm hoping for a cool movie. It can turn out to be a crappy movie but it can also be a cool movie. You never know.
But still Spies Like Us doesn't need to remade .It's fun on it's own.

Is this real???

I actually think Spies Like Us is funny but enough of the NEEDLESS remakes. There are a billion people out there who have scripts,
good & bad. But they are at least originals. well some are :whatever:

lazy, hollywood morons
