Spike Lee is set to direct the film adaptation of Ron Wimberly’s graphic novel Prince of Cats, a hip-hop take on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Lee is also working on a rewrite of the script with Wimberly and the screenwriter Selwyn Seyfu Hinds (a former editor of seminal hip-hop magazine The Source). Prince of Cats is set in the 1980s in “Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn,” and rooted in the hip-hop culture of DJing, MCing, breakdancing, and graffiti writing. It follows Juliet’s cousin Tybalt and his Capulet brothers as they duel with the rival Montagues.

**** is gonna be cool af, we getting good news after good news, the amount of talented ppl working for DC/WB, whoa!! we keep winning

That is great news! I still think that they should also do a static and vixen movie. I think if both of those films where done right black audiences and everyone else would really enjoy it.

It seems the OGN is now published by Image Comics.
