Looks pretty cool, I'll need to buy Battlefront 2 on PSP to try it out now though.

Main points:
- 11 level single player mode telling the story of Han Solo's Renegade Squadren
- Visit locations like Valley of the Sith (from the old Jedi Knighhts game)and Alderaan (the planet the Death Star blew up... so visiting it will be a challenge.)
- Space battles return
- Obi-wan, Assajj Ventress and Kit Fisto will all make appearances
- 16 player online
- Ships galore, more than Battlefront 2

I never liked Battlefront, why should I care about this game. :o

Doesn't it just mean that Han Solo is exclusive to the PSP? Or does it really mean the entire game will just be on PSP?

If you clicked the link in the first post you would have found out that this game "Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron" is a PSP exclusive.

Hopefully since it's designed from the ground up on PSP, it will be a lot better than Battlefront 2. I still want my next-gen Battlefront console game though, you hear me Lucas Arts?

Getting to play as Han Solo sounds cool, and the fact that they actually have online this time might cause me to give it a chance.

Why do exclusives for the PSP even exist? They should at least release it on the PS2 as well. The technology level is about the same and I don't want a PSP, damn it. :(

Well, by that logic, why should the PSP even exist? Exclusives are the bread and butter of any console, and PSP is just as entitled to them as any other system.

I don't mind it being a PSP exclusive. I would be buying it on there anyway. I just hope they sort out the flying missions. They were boring in Battlefront II.

An excellent question. :o

Seriously, though, I've always thought of hand-helds as secondary to consoles. The DS broke the mold and has a lot of exclusives of its own, but that at least has an interesting control set-up that none of the consoles can duplicate. A PSP is basically just a hand-held PS2, so it irks me when they release things solely for the PSP. I doubt porting it would be that hard, and the portability issue is enough for people to buy it on the PSP anyway if they've got both systems.

Ideally handheld games are played in small "bursts", which is where game design for PSP differs greatly from PS2. A game like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops would not work on PS2 because it's designed around a tiny screen and the presumption that you'll be playing it for only a few minutes at a time. PSP also has limitations that must be worked around (less power, battery consumption, load times, one joystick and 2 less buttons, etc.) that make PS2 ports of PSP games seem somwhat underwhelming, as was the case with Liberty City stories and Vice City stories on PS2. They were great for PSP, but on a console they just didn't fit.

The new Battlefront looks like it could be a lot of fun as a handheld game. But would you really want to see this blown up to scale on your 30" TV screen?

The NES and Gameboy were not terribly different in terms of power, but most of the Gameboy's best games were not availible on the NES. The best handheld games are designed with the intention of being handheld games, so porting those games to consoles is usually a bad idea (even moreso than porting console games to handhelds).

I'm not sure I'll bother with this game... the trailer wasn't so impressive. Maybe for the online.

All right, fair points. I hadn't thought of the differences in gameplay design. I still think major franchises should release their hand-held games for consoles, though. I'm a fan of the God of War series, for example, so I want to see what happens to Kratos, regardless of whether the gameplay was designed for hand-helds or consoles. The exclusivity game just bugs me.

As for blowing images up, why not? I don't really mind graphics, and that PSP image doesn't look much worse than a lot of PS2 games I've enjoyed. Hell, I still play Chrono Trigger and the Shining Force games occasionally.
