How would you guys react to Valve creating a Steam service for consoles? Realistically, the only one I can see it for would be the Xbox.

Can't see it happening because Valve is making its own consoles now. Upcoming Steam Machines as basically consoles with Steam as dashboard.

The Steam Box could go either way (think 3DO). Are they still releasing it in the near future?

Glactus is correct the only reason the steam machines exist is cause the other console makers and certain dev's keep calling the Xbox one and ps4 pc's . and it seem's to wild up certain parts of the pc commuity. Now the real issue right now is this selection process valve doing currently. especially now that the Xbox one is adding key bord feature as soon as windows 10 fully ready and ps4 can possible do with a keyboard.

They(Valve) may be doing a process of elimination with all the people making different version of a console all while they are working on one their own console. but this message isn't processing to the people(certain ones) that may be interested cause they aren't saying it out right and up front and they are all different prices and with different hard drives with each version. which is confusing people(those that can't handle more then one chose) when the goal is to have a console that has both power and capability of pc's

they need to do this fast and finish with it(choose a certain type of console) on their own cause those of the public that claim they can't handle option /chose are freaking out and it's them theya that will be buying these things in the end.

I under stand they want to public to make the best chose for them selves on their with chose's available but unless they are more up front people will thing in every which direction and will just get fickle on them . sadly. especially when you people say they can't this much options and some of them aren't appealing price wise.

Valve's console will have to also stand out from the others in a "what can this do that the other consoles can't, that I would need or have to have it." which I'm sure they can do.

But they need this elimination process down first and for most and to have at a price where people that difficult /skeptical can't have reason to write it off as fast as possible .

A store app for consoles where you can access your games on the consoles itself similar to Xbox Live Arcade, Nintendo WiiWare, or PlayStation Now. I know the chances are extremely slim (Valve's Steam Box, it would compete with their proprietary service, and compatibility issues galore), but I like thinking about hypotheticals like this. If something like this were to happen, I can see Xbox getting it because it's OS is based on Windows. Now if it will be able to run the games is whole other thing.

it really doesnt make sense for Valve to have a store on any of the consoles for games that arent playable on that system. It would have to be PSN, XBL or WiiWare titles, and in that case it would be redundant since MS, Sony and Nintendo already have a store for that stuff. Why would they allow competition onto their platform, especially one that tends to have better prices anyway? It'll never happen. Not only that but as it stands, they all get 100% of the profits from first party sales and a portion from 3rd party. Why would they want another company in the mix to take a piece of that cut? It just doesnt seem logical at all.

The console space is very closed off and controlled (by all 3 of the manufacturers) and I can't see that changing for games at least at any time in the future.
