Stephen Sommers Planning Odd Thomas?

because I'm a fan of the book and I feel it deserves a lot better than stephen f***ing sommers. I'd rather it not be made in all honesty. I usually try not to be so close minded, but this just doesn't sound good. I like the cast, Anton Yelchin is awesome, and I can get used to patton oswalt as ozzie, but there are certain really unnecessary changes that have been made that just leave me scratching my head.

he is far from terrible i have on disliked 2 of his films(Van Helsing & GI Joe)

i say give him a chance

I liked the mummy. that's about it. I trust him with mindless action movies, which odd thomas shouldn't be. it's a murder mystery, not some popcorn actioneer.

As someone who has read all 4 Odd books I really hope this turns out well, but I just cant see it with Sommers behind the helm, this is not his type of movie at all. Would love for him to surprise us and do a great adaptation but I just cant see it.

Also, I see no one cast as Elvis, if he isnt in this then the movie has already failed in my eyes.

I gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised. It looks surprisingly faithful to the books so far, the bodachs look particularly cool,I always wondered how they'd portray them.

Eh, looks okay I guess, but I just cant get past Sommers being the director, maybe this will be the movie that changes peoples perception of him as a director?

Here's hoping.

Has anyone seen this yet?

I enjoyed it, but it felt more like a 90s TV pilot... so much so, i'm actually sad it's not the pilot to a tv series, because I think it could have been a great one, whereas as a movie it doesn't stand up so well.

how in the blue hell you see it this film doesn't even have a distributor

did it leak online?

I watched this film last week and had to turn it off , it was just terrible.

`The movie was released on DVD here in Europe a couple of months ago...and it was leaked online.

As far as the movie is concern, compared to the book, i guess it's good enough if you're not really a hardcore fan of the book. They left out a couple of things that i thought was essential to the storyline.First, No Elvis and the second was odd's fat friend-forgot his name. In the book he was one of the major character, in the movie he was only on screen for a very short time...and not quite as fat.

Funny thing, reading the book, i can't help but thinking of that TV series, Dead like me. and watching the movie...even moreso. things like in the TV series, in the beginning of each new scene, they do this fast forward-zoom thing. There are few scenes shot like that in the movie. And Odd comes off-on screen-as a male, less interesting version of George from dead like me ( personal opinion only, guys!)

Based on the trailer alone, the version of Odd seems different than the one in the books. The tone also seems too lighthearted if you know how Odd Thomas ends.

The ending in the movie was actually pretty close to the ending in the novel.

And for the most part, the movie was pretty faithfull too the novel. But like i said, i miss Elvis and ozzie. It has a nice pace .And there's a proper sense of build up in the movie...that's always good.

Yelchin and Ashley Sommers were pretty good as odd and Stormy. And y'know..Dafoe is always great no matter what roles he's in. Though he's not exactly how i imagined chief Porter would looks like.

I really enjoyed the book, so would you recommend seeing it when it comes out stateside?

Very dissapointed that Ozzie and Elvis arent in this, they were essential to the book and the story in general, including the sequels.

Not sure if I will bother seeing the movie now to be honest.

I would, actually. For the most part, it's pretty faithfull to the book. And Yelchin and Sommers did a good job as Odd and Stormy.

Ozzie was in it...for a VERY brief period. And he's not like in the book, so that was dissapointing. And of course...Elvis not in the movie too.that was also VERY dissapointing.

That's EXACTLY the vibe I got, and why it felt like it would have worked better as a pilot for a tv show.

So, how is nobody talking about the trailer for this yet? Looks, interesting at least
