Warner Independent Pictures, the indie arm of Warner Bros, acquired the rights to the comedy STRANGERS WITH CANDY earlier this year at Sundance with plans to release this fall. At the time the studio said the film was "rude, hilarious and bizarre," adding, "[w]e loved it." Apparently they didn't think too many other people would love it as they've dropped the film from their release schedule and are expected to let the film go entirely. The film, which stars Amy Sedaris, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sir Ian Holm and Alison Janney among many others. The film is based on the former Comedy Central TV series about a forty-something woman who decides to start her life over by returning to high school. Interestingly enough, Paramount, which has ties to the film as its parent company, Viacom, also owns Comedy Central, opted to pass on the film. There are other studios taking a look at the film and a new deal could be hatched soon.

It doesn't really sound like a film that would be appealing to anyone.

I used to love strangers with Candy,I hope it gets released.

A year later and still nothing? I wouldn't hold much hope.
