Syn's Scratch Pad

All touched up for my roughs. Next is the inking.

I think i've done a good job of translating the character from one style to the other. I still pretty much see him as the zany wooldoor. Hopefully i'm not just biased. Feedback prz.

This is still the Bruce Timm style, right? Seems pretty close to me. Something about it reminds me of the way Toyman was designed on Superman the Animated Series for some reason...maybe the big eyes since Toyman had the mask on? Looks good so far.

Yessir it is. And thank you.

Don't watch the show, but your art looks good. :woot:

Thanks bud. The show is pretty funny. I'd give it a view.

I know it's been a little while since i showed any progress. So here's what i've done. The beginnings of both Ling Ling, and Xander in Timm's style.

Xander still has a long way to go. But Ling Ling is almost ready to be inked.

Enjoy guys. Feedback always helpful.

Hrm. I stumbled across this old thing, and remembered that I never actually posted it in my thread. Since day one, i've been saying that Mee's work screams out for colors. So I decided to color this way back when. We need to collaborate more, Mee. heh

Super nice! I hate you both.

Hey Guys. I realize I kinda dropped off the map a bit again. But it's been the finals for this semester, so I've been bogged down trying to finish up assignments.

So i'm going to share one of those with you. I had to demonstrate my proficiency with Illustrator by creating "celebrity cards" for the Jack Queen and King. I took some progress shots while I was making my king, (who is batman, of course.) since I had to use actual people, I decided to go with the Burton 3, Batman Catwoman and Joker. Anyway. Let me know what you think.

Tell me what you think, guys.
I'll try and have more drawn together stuff done during the holiday break.
Until then, Rock on.

This is off to a great start

Oh, erm, forgot the finished piece. Since it's a playing card, that was the final for the character. I also had to work in three color theories. Triad, analogic and complementary. So here's what I came up with:

3 all nighters, and this is what we get. besides exhausted.

i love the batman image, but i'm not sure how well it works as a playing card... sorry i don't mean to be disparaging; i wish i had some more precise pointers as to what i feel is wrong with it...

actually just did a google image search for playing cards and i think what strikes me as weird about this design is that batman is looking straight at the player: nearly all the other card designs have the characters looking off to one side: either in profile or 3/4 view. also, i think they would look much better if there was more of a gap between the ears and the edge of the card. i hope you don't feel i'm being overly critical... like i said i love the original image and i can't wait to see the catwoman and joker designs...

Heh, thanks for the critique, Phig. you're right. as a playing card, it doesn't work too well. but I wanted something elaborate but not excessively intricate to display my skill with illustrator. The card layout is just something I threw in to make it jive with the assignment,

it certainly does that! nice work bru.

Thank you sir.

I just want to take this moment to say how much I hate adobe illustrator.

I'm soooo used to sketching in Photoshop. with fluid motions. Vectors and curves are too technical for my tastes.

I can't deny how well the the program performs for logos and vector work, though.

very cool... CANT WAIT for catwoman!

Thats HOT!

Nicely done!

Wow. Never thought that'd be dug up again. heh, thank you.

Since i'm talking about digging stuff up. It occurred to me that I never posted this in my thread. and since it was my first foray into skinning, I'm still pretty proud of it.

Not sure if anyone plays Warcraft 3 (mods. the actual game is icky) but I was at one point developing a map of Marvel VS DC or Marvel VS Street Fighter, I couldn't decide. anyway. Here's my wolverine skin. :D

ugh. been awhile.

Just to prove that I am actually working on it, here's my WIP for the cartoon contest. comments or tips are welcome.

I'm not very good at simplicity. but i did what I could. if I make it to the next round I'll hopefully take an easier approach. this perspective was tricky.
