Night Dive Studios the team that "enhanced" the original System shock last year is now working on a full modern technological remake of the original. So far it is announced for the PC and the X1. Hopefully for the PS4, but if not it will be the one reason for me to get an X1. System Shock was one of the greatest games ever made. With System Shock 3 in the works and Night Dive talking about doing the same remaster to System Shock 2. Finally people can see the greatness that is System Shock. Hard to believe the game is 22 years old, makes me feel even older.

I kinda already put that up in the system shock 3 thread. cause I wasn't sure if this was gonna need thread of it's own. And I think this is being done in anticipation of 3. it's all good though.

No it's not being done in anticipation, this crew has been a part of a modding community that has worked on mods for the SS series for some time. This is a full game and remake of a masterpiece. It deserves its own thread, period.

when said in anticipation it was cause of the news of 3 prior. of which I know I was mistake to a degree or the word's I chose weren't used right at all .

these guys made mod's I'm just saying hopefully this is backed by the original creators and will indeed come out and not be shut down cause the publisher's know of it and they are in support of it and will use it to co-exsist with the new game coming. other I made a mistake with my words prior.

It is backed by studios it's not a fan project.

Sweet, gonna download the PC demo right away. Hopefully SS2 gets remastered too because it's one of my favourite PC games.

Looking forward to SS3 as well.

Nightdive Studios confirms PlayStation 4 version.

Nightdive Studios’ System Shock remake, which was is in its final week of funding on Kickstarter (but already over its funding goal), is coming to PlayStation 4 in addition to PC, the developer announced.

“When we launched this Kickstarter, supporting PS4 was a possibility, but we hadn’t started talking to Sony just yet about it,” project director Jason Fader said in a blog post. “We were all focused on wrapping the demo up and prepping the Kickstarter.”

Fader continued, “After we saw the overwhelming demand for PS4, we reshuffled our priorities and focused on talking to Sony about making that happen. After a few weeks and lotttts of emails, we are officially on track for bringing System Shock to the PS4! No stretch goal for it. We’re adding it in as a thank you to our backers that put their faith in us.”

While an Xbox One version has not been confirmed, Fader notes that “we already had strong contacts at Microsoft from prior projects, so supporting Xbox One was less of an unknown.”

Here’s an overview of the game, via Fader on the PlayStation Blog:
Imagine you’re a hacker in the future. You’re trapped on a space station with a megalomaniacal AI bent on mankind’s destruction named SHODAN. You need to survive and defeat her, or mankind will be lost. No pressure, right? Oh, and you’ll be facing her monstrous constructs and warped mutations of humans along the way. Your tools are your wits, weapons you find, computer systems to hack, and corners you can hide in. Good luck!

Night Dive Studios’ upcoming System Shock remake has moved from its previously planned Unity engine to Unreal Engine 4, game director Jason Fader told Polygon at the Game Developers Conference 2017.

“Unity is not a great engine to use if you want to make an FPS on console,” Fader said. “So we spent a few weeks researching other engines, really diving deep with Unreal and Lumberyard, and we made the decision to pull the trigger and move forward with Unreal.”

Fader added that Unreal Engine 4 was “the smarter direction to go” given the game’s combination of fidelity, cross-platform support, content-creation pipelines, and performance.

The remake, or “faithful reboot,” as Fader calls it,” will not touch the story or characters, but it will have more refined dialogue. Most of the classic creatures, weapons, items, and areas will return, but modern game design principles and visuals are being applied. A lot more of the station will be opened up as well. Fader calls it “more of a Metroidvania-style game,” adding that, “at one point I wanted to call it open world, but it’s not a world. But it is openly explorable. Once you get out of that starting area, the station is your oyster.”

System Shock is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux in Q2 2018.

System Shock remake development put on hold to reassess vision, promises “stronger than ever” return
Published 13 hours ago. 25 comments.

And now for a shock to the system...

System-Shock_02-16-18.jpg

The System Shock remake that was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in June 2016 is “taking a break,” but is not being cancelled, Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick said in a Kickstarter update.

According to Kick, what was initially planned as a remaster developed in Unity became an entirely new game developed in Unreal Engine 4. The concept continued to grow, as did the scope and budget of the game, and things got “out of control.”

“It has become clear to me that we took the wrong path, that we turned our backs on the very people who made this possible, our Kickstarter backers,” Kick said. “I have put the team on a hiatus while we reassess our path so that we can return to our vision. We are taking a break, but NOT ending the project. Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever. System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled. ”

Here is the full message from Kick:
In March of 2016, Nightdive Studios released our video of our vision of System Shock Remastered. Done in Unity it was an immediate hit with almost a half million views on YouTube. In June of 2016 we launched a Kickstarter campaign to make the vision into a reality. It was tremendously successful with over 21,000 backers contributing over $1.3 million to the campaign. We put together a development team and began working on the game. But along the way something happened.

Maybe we were too successful. Maybe we lost our focus. The vision began to change. We moved from a Remaster to a completely new game. We shifted engines from Unity to Unreal, a choice that we don’t regret and one that has worked out for us. With the switch we began envisioning doing more, but straying from the core concepts of the original title.

As our concept grew and as our team changed, so did the scope of what we were doing and with that the budget for the game. As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners. The more that we worked on the game, the more that we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great.

Ultimately the responsibility for the decisions rests with me. As the CEO and founder of Nightdive Studios, a company that was built on the restoration of the System Shock franchise, I let things get out of control. I can tell you that I did it for all the right reasons, that I was totally committed to making a great game, but it has become clear to me that we took the wrong path, that we turned our backs on the very people who made this possible, our Kickstarter backers.

I have put the team on a hiatus while we reassess our path so that we can return to our vision. We are taking a break, but NOT ending the project. Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever. System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled.
