The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The ASM2 Merchandise Thread

@ANE I screenshot it off the superbowl spot on youtube granted youtube's quality sucks but this one was the best one and more visible then the other shots
I believe everyone has their right to an opinion but also I think people need to choose their words carefully

Well I did not mean to offend or anything, lol

Really, it's moreso a knock against the film's CGI than you, the whole thing looks like a game to me.

Yeah some shots do. I can't wait to see it in theaters though. Most everyone says the difference is night and day and that it looks spectacular on the big screen.

Oh okay no offense taken man
I'm sure they'll have it look much better when it comes time for release after all that was weeks ago so it should improve

We'll see in two and a half months, though due to certain...ahem, films before it that had trailers with bad CGI that would be "fixed" when the film came out, my faith is shaken. Examples include but are not limited to:

Green Lantern (some of it looks like a PS3 game)
SM3 has some awful shots
Some stuff in TASM.

I really like the CGI for the most part. But Goblin looks pretty cartoon-y in that shot where Spider-man kicks him. It still needs to be polished quite a bit.

Lol at all the assumptions you've made here as well as your condescension. Are you always this unpleasant to chat with? I can honestly say it's a first for me on this site. Silly insulting implications and condescension. Polite, civil discourse is far more preferable when discussing these things, I assure you.

Read through what I read again. When did I ever say that it looked closer to the Green Goblin from the comics. Nowhere did I say that or even imply it. What I said was that I prefer it aesthetically to the Raimi versions because it looks like *A* goblin. As in the fantasy critters GG is based on.

I don't care about exact translations of the character's appearance like so many fanboys do. I care about whether or not I like it, it works for the movie, and is respectful enough to the original. Thus, I don't hate Raimi's Green Goblin (though I DO hate New Goblin). I like it. I just prefer this one for being similar to an actual Goblin in many of the shots we've seen and for not limiting the actor in the suit with a static mask/helmet.

What I see is a creepy goblin-y dude with an incomplete, partially green tech suit, green splotches on his skin, pointed prosthetic ears, claws, a glider, and a terrifying grin. That works for me. I love it. Not as much as I love GG in the comics, but love it I do.

The only reason I bring up Raimi's GG is because it also made quite a few changes. It deviates from the source material too. And some of those bug me a bit, but I still like it. It meets my criteria in a similar way to the TASM2 one.

Um, how am I being uncivil or impolite? I am not name-calling. I said you could have your opinion.
I am simply asking how this resembles a "Goblin."
And look at my post again. Whenever I quote you I would just say "Goblin" and leave the "Green" out. I noticed.

It still doesn't help me any. Google "Goblin" and tell me that one of those looks like Harry in this movie. And again, how does Raimi's NOT look like a "goblin"?

And being serious, where are you seeing "pointed ears?" Because from what I have heard and seen, he just has a blue tooth that accidentally looks like a Goblin ear.

I'm not even being rude so quit trying to call me out on that. I am being completely appropriate here.

Oh, okay. I suppose using typical condescending internet bickering language ala 'what planet are you from?' ('moon man planet?') or the always popular 'please, enlighten me' sarcastic,/condescending line isn't at all being rude since you say it isn't. You don't have to sugarcoat your opinion, but I would appreciate some respect and no more condescension. There are other posters on here I've had disagreements with, but it's always been pleasant having a discussion with them.

The fourth and fifteenth google image results look very similar to GG in this film to me. Minus the technological aspects, of course.

And, once again, I never said Raimi's Green Goblin didn't look like a goblin. The mask, while static, displays typical goblin-y features. All I ever said was I prefer this version and that I was satisfied he looks like a goblin with cool tech.

As for the pointed ears, look at the posters and trailers. They're bluetooth pieces which are shaped like the traditional, pointed goblin ears. Not the approach I would have gone with, but I quite like it. Similar to the TDKR catwoman ears.

I sincerely think Harry won't be referred to as the Goblin at all. We're getting the true Goblin in ASM3, this is simply a prototype and looks as such. Also I'm going to probably grab all those minimates.

I kind of don't think he'll be called Goblin either. Just doesn't seem like he has enough screentime to be named. He's only Goblin at the end.

Don't think I'll be purchasing the minimates, though. They just don't strike my fancy. I really want some kind of Goblin figure, though.

Idk I think it's possible he'll have some sort of mentioning of "Green Goblin". Similarly to how The Lizard was mentioned in TASM.

Well, it's always possible. But I don't think there will be much time for name calling from Spider-man while fighting Gobby. Maybe a follow up Bugle article naming him after the fight?

Yeahhh that's what I meant. Or the news again. I don't imagin verbal name calling either though.

going back to the Goblins look, it would have been SO simple for them to just give him a Helmet that goes around his ears and ends in a point. and have his eyes turn yellow and teeth get sharper. Thats all it would have needed and the armor/helmet to be purple.

I think in the old storyboards we saw a few months back, he had sharp teeth, no?

Yes, he did. In some of the shots we've seen it looks like he does (his smile when he swoops into the clocktower and the poster with his face on the screens). Looks like he might have some claws too.

So, yeah, definitely buying that Goblin bust. It's fantastic. It's the sort of Goblin merch I've been hoping for. Now if they'll put out a POP! version of him my wishes will have all come true. lol

It's almost the same issue with Spider-Man 3, but at least he wasn't being called the first Green Goblin. It made sense because Harry wasn't making a name for himself and was just using tools to kill Peter. He did look cool, but it wasn't Goblin enough for me. However, I got over it because I see what they were doing and the design was very tactical and mercenary like.

Here I can't see it. It's obvious they are trying to give him a Gobliny look but he just looks like an idiot. The armor is a mess and green for no reason on one side. Like "well, you know it's the Green Goblin so let's just color these pieces green because you know." The face could be completely scary looking considering it's not a mask but instead looks goofy. And "Blue Tooth goblin ears?" Are They serious? Most shots don't even make it look like he has green skin. Just veins.

The worst part to me is the spiked hair. He looks like a buffoon.

I mean after the derpy Lizard and this fish-faced Mr. Freeze Electro I shouldn't be surprised that the design sucks. But this is my favorite villain.

I will say the Glider looks great in the few shots I have seen it.

In the 2002 Spider-Man movie, I did concede that the Green Goblin suit and mask did look "Power Ranger-ish," but I forgave that stuff because (a) the movie is great, and (b) Dafoe sold it well enough to me.

Based on what I'm seeing here, I'd take the Power Ranger mask ANY day over this Goblin design. Granted, the actor might sell it for me, and the movie might be really good, but my first impression is not a good one at all.

I haven't liked a single villain character design for the Amazing Spider-Man films. Lizard looks like a Goomba, Electro looks like Mr. Freeze, Rhino looks like a Michael Bay Transformer, and this Goblin has blue tooth ears.

At least the Spider-Man suit in this movie is awesome.

I actually thought his suit and glider looked great, the mask while very power ranger like has grown on me. The real sin of it was that it hid Dafoe's facial expressions. No emotion could be seen and the performance suffered from that IMO.

I'd certainly take this design over the Power Ranger mask if he was more Green around the face. In the T.V Spot he looks real menacing with the facial expressions and I think he looks cool if he is indeed Proto-Goblin. That villain even underwent a transformation too.

You may not like them but in terms of faithfulness, most are well done. I might not like the new suit it's a faithful adaption.
The Lizard

Granted, there less Goomba like designs and more scarier ones that'll still show expression but it was a pretty decent look.
Electro

They went with the Ultimate look, much better than the awful spandex he wore in 616 IMO.
Rhino

Again Ultimate look, mechanical and it's a small man inside. He even stands but will "transform" when he needs to run into things.

I've talked about Proto-Goblin earlier :)

Well, he's likely a proto-goblin in terms of his suit and serum being incomplete, faulty prototypes leading up to something else for Norman. But he doesn't resemble Van Adder's protogoblin from the comics (red skin, yellow hair). He just might serve a similar function.

I agree with most of the recent comments in this thread. I think it's too early to brand Harry as the "Green Goblin" when we haven't seen the film yet. Harry could just be a prototype (like it was rumoured in the first movie) and Norman could make an appearance as the final version.

I think from what we've seen of Harry, there's some evidence that he's just testing out the serum at this point. He's got an incomplete armor, and his face is showing side effects from the serum (the green splotches)

Also: I agree that the goblin glider looks awesome this time around. Looks a lot like the Spectacular glider
