A long time ago, I had a bad experience working a cash register.
My employment counselor is suggesting it is much easier today with the newer digital models .
She thinks I should try getting a job which would involve working a register.
So what is your experience with working a cash register,
Easy Peasy or Mechanical Hellspawn of Belzebub?

Ours at work like to randomly crash sometimes, or get stuck on the "drop cash" prompt even when there are no large bills inside.

One time? The cash register takes my money all the time. Swiftly and without remorse.

:o

But honestly, I've worked three jobs as a cashier (two supermarkets and one retail store) and it's simple work. In fact, it's too simple. It becomes such a mundane job. The worst part of the job is standing for ___ hours and getting back aches. If you aren't a sociable person or end up working at a place where customers are dick heads, then good luck.

My last deli had a register and it was sometimes a joy to have and other times it was a pain. It gave me variety and got me away from the counter. A lot of the time the customers were okay, unless they had an odd request or an unusual payment method. Even so, if that happened I just called someone from the front desk and it became their problem.

That said, I dont miss working with a register.

I know a cash register that mows the lawn at 7am. :argh:

I have had my share of back problems,
So I have considered that might be an issue.

It really depends, as I've worked at several places with different types of registers. Several places are now going touch screen which makes it much easier.

I have back problems as well, so I sympathize. Standing all day on a concrete floor is hell on the back.

We have to wipe them all off the face of the Earth before they become self aware and make us their slaves!

i hated when we switched to touch screens. when the keys were tactile, i could type without looking and i have scanned over 30 items a minute my entire career.

when we went touchscreen i liked that i could flip the screens to left-handedness, which resulted in me still being faster than pretty much everyone lol. at times it'd get frustrating, especially early in the morning when they're still lagging from being idle all night as i type faster than the buttons appear and i can touch/predict where they will come up on the screen.

Usually it's Easy Peasy, but sometimes it can be Hellspawn of Beelzebub. It depends on where you're working and how updated the system is. I can tell you that if your store has XStore, to run away quickly. It was created by an angry 10-year-old who hates retail.

I'm fairly certain we either run a program called CARTS or that was the name of the previous one
