Honestly, "Netflix will pick it up!" is kinda becoming the new go to, but I think it is going to be disappointing to a lot of people, because Netflix isn't going to ride in on a white stallion and save every cancelled show. I defnitely don't think Netflix will pick this up for a few reasons.
1) Between SMG, Robin Williams, and Brad Garrett the cast is WAY too expensive...production costs would be through the roof for a show that had one good season, wasn't really groundbreaking and didn't do huge numbers.
2) House of Cards and Orange is the New Black has changed the landscape of Netflix. When Netflix saved The Killing, it was pre-House of Cards and AMC was splitting production costs. Now Netflix saved it again a few months ago, but in a very limited capacity....it is only airing six episodes that are meant to give the show closure.
Arrested Development was a very unique case in which you had a very motivated creator and cast and a SUBSTANTIAL cult following. Plus the old episodes were one of the most streamed shows on Netflix. Finally, the deal got into place pre-House of Cards.
Yes, post-House of Cards Netflix revived Trailer Park Boys but that show is incredibly cheap to produce, has a large cult following, and I don't even think Netflix is paying all of the production costs.
In the post-House of Cards/Orange in the New Black landscape, Netflix is focusing on developing their own brand and their own programming. They are not going to settle for taking the table scraps of any other network. It just isn't going to work that way. Netflix has six new original shows coming out between now and the end of 2015 (Marco Polo, Sense8, Narcos, Grace and Funkie, Daredevil and an as of yet untitled psychological thriller show). In addition, there is going to be at least two seasons of Trailer Park Boys, at least one more season of House of Cards (probably two but only one is confirmed), at least two more seasons of Orange is the New Black, at least one more season of Lillyhammer and at least one more season of Hemlock Grove. In addition to that, there almost definitely will be another Arrested Development season at some point. PLUS, Netflix is developing a slew of animated programming.
My point is this, Netflix is focused on building its own brand and has a pretty full plate at the moment. Netflix is not interested in becoming the knight in shining armor that saves just about any cancelled show of moderate popularity. Everyone should temper their expectations in regard to Netflix.
