Horror The Curse Of La Llorona | Warner Bros.

Oddly enough, the full trailer don't look as scary as the teaser...

People get mad about anything these days I swear.

It's latin folklore deeply rooted in latin culture...being told through the experiences of a white woman because the film makers chose to ignore the culture when they decided against common sense by not casting a Latina actress...it's worth being pissed about.

We knre she was cast months.

And people have been pissed for months, regardless of what this article decided to write about it. All of my Spanish speaking friends have been pissed about it since it first started being promoted.

It's a fictional ghost story, and like all ghost stories, folklore, and mythology it is itself no doubt a rip off of some other culture's ghost story. So it's silly to be overly possessive of it.

Secondly the ghost appears to be keeping the latino folklore roots and based on this trailer the film will explore those roots so the filmmakers very clearly arent ignoring the culture.

Thirdly theres nothing wrong with a latino fictional ghost attacking people that arent latino. As can be seen in the trailer she goes after a latino mother and this white mother.

And I think it's scarier for the main character to be a white or even a black American. Most Americans have heard of bloody mary and many have a passing familiarity with a woman in white or the Jersy Devil or the hook man. But La Llorona is unknown to most Americans. This film is the first time many have been exposed to this folktale. I'm guessing this white mother is also entirely ignorant of La Llorona. So this white mother finds herself haunted by a ghost that she is totally ignorant of from a culture she may not know much about. She cant rely on family knowledge or engrained cultural knowledge. Which forces her to expose herself and her family to niche parts of a foreign culture. Forces her to reach out to foreign strangers. Do things not in her typical white American box. That's a more dynamic and potentially frightening story than latino woman with a latino family living in a latino neighborhood is haunted by a well known latino ghost.

Comedian: White ghosts haunt like this. "Do-de-do-de dum."

Latino ghosts haunt like this. *Lowrider plays*

I bet if this came out on Netflix they would have not made the lead character white... kinda like Ghoul.

I'm hispanic, raised with all these stories and myths from my abuela, and I think its stupid as hell to get upset about it.

The bodies of dead kids? Well ****.

So she's part of that whole shtick.

Love the Conjuring connection. That should be a nice boost to the box office.

It's really bad how those spin offs are turning out and now there's a forced Conjuring connection in this one...ugh. Hopefully Annabelle Comes Homes is decent otherwise this franchise is gonna stop being so lucrative

I haven't seen this yet, but I agree with your point about quality of the franchise. I loved The Conjuring, and thought The Conjuring 2 was very good. Neither Annabelle film impressed me. I thought The Nun was better, although nowhere near the level of the Conjuring movies. I liked the trailers for The Curse of La Llorona. I hope I'm not disappointed.

I haven't seen it but I have yet to see a positive reaction to it :/

I liked it. Watching this in Dolby Cinema was the ****, with all that true black and shadows in this. I kinda like the slight connection to the Conjuring universe even if it doesn't lead to anything. It's actually kinda refreshing to see something actually be a shared universe with different things happening to different people in the same world, and not necessarily HAVE to connect some way some how in the future. It feels more real and fleshed out, but I'm sure I'm in the minority, as I'm 99% certain most audiences would want that pay off of it being in the the same shared universe to link to the other films, because otherwise what's the point of the connection. But I'm cool with what it is.

I haven't seen this yet but what I've seen in the trailers puts me in mind of The Woman in Black, which I loved.

I didn't love Woman in Black, but that was a better movie than this.

I saw this last night, some pretty decent visuals but the scare factor was rather minimal until I got into my car in a completely empty parking lot at almost midnight. :/

It's sad, I always wanted to see La Llorona on the big screen with a talented team behind it and I just never got excited after the first trailer. Don't care if I ever watch it, maybe one day when it hits Netflix.
