This year is the 35th anniversary to one of the best sci-fi, fantasy and adventure films of all time and one of the greatest sequels ever thanks to a well written script, great direction, Yoda and all that.
 
There's an entire forum specifically for the Star Wars Saga that this'll probably get moved into.

But I agree. Arguably the greatest sequel of all time. Personally, it's this and Godfather 2 and then a steep drop off.

Those others are also some of my favorites. But I feel that GF2 and ESB are the standards.

I remember hearing at one point that only two movies made money during the summer of 1980: "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Airplane!".

If Empire had been released today there would have been absolutely no way to keep it a secret that Vader was Luke's father. I wonder if/how that would have changed things...
