So, I haven't bothered to read about the game past that it's a betrayal.

So, I haven't bothered to read about the game past that it's a betrayal.

How'd they screw it up?

Basically, Gearbox put the game on hold at least 3 times, because they'd be working on other projects instead. Borderlands, Duke Nukem, etc. And if sources are legit, each time they resumed work, they'd start from the ground up again. No clear vision of the game, with early stages of development having nothing solid beyond tons of art and design work, basically an Aliens Museum. Supposedly there was outsourcing to other studios, where their work was basically torn apart, with only a few months left till release. At this point, Sega already gave Gearbox multiple extensions, but was getting antsi. Not daring to ask Sega for another extension and in fear of legal actions, they decided to finish what they had and released this mess into stores.

Perhaps they were going to try and stop every else from going in.
