SUCH an underrated film, they did a fantastic job of emulating the look and feel of that cartoon, the casting was good (another GREAT casting of John Goodman in a cartoon character role again), the visuals were outstanding, and it made me fall in love with the Mach V all over again, god that car was cool!

Always hear people say that, that movie looked NOTHING like the cartoon I grew up watching

I have yet to see a live action movie of a cartoon adaption come 100% close to what the cartoon was, in my OPINION, Speed Racer is one of those that really captured the feel of the show, the only other one was The Flintstones (funny how both had John Goodman in it). I also grew up on the cartoon as well, even tho I had not watched it in a long time, but when I saw teaser then trailers for the movie I was pumped, saw it opening weekend and enjoyed the HELL out of it, and I got it on DVD then later Blu ;).

Completely agree with you. I for one loved this film and didn't understand why it got so much flack!

Oh Ok thanks, I need to watch that movie again anyways. Matthew Fox almost stole the movie for me with his awesomeness as Racer X. I wish we could get a glimpse of him as Batman for fun.

Same here. I just sat there thinking, "Dude probably could've been a good Batman."

It was pretty much a live-action cartoon and . why they tried to make it look like one with the CGI and keeping the backgrounds in focus and such. It captured the goofiness and cheesiness of the show.

Only problem I had with it was that it was long for a kids/family film.

It got flack because people who had never seen the cartoon assumed it was made to appeal to people who hadn't seen the cartoon. As someone who never saw the cartoon, that movie sucked. Like... big time sucked.
Glad you few enjoyed it, but there's no surprise to me why it bombed.
