The "I loved this movie and never realized this big name actor was in it" thread

I was watching "Witness" a few days ago on cable after not viewing it for years (still a great movie, and wholeheartedly recommend this film to any who haven't seen perhaps Harrison Ford's greatest film) and noticed that Viggo Mortensen (aka Aragorn) is one of the main Amish sidekicks in the movie.

Related to that, I was watching the gripping Denzell Washington & Gene Hackman thriller "Crimson Tide" again and noticed that Viggo Mortenson is also in that movie, but more importantly, there was a Naval James Gandolfini a few years before he hit it big in The Sopranos. Nothing like a sailor who has the mafia behind him.

So what movies that you remember favorably have you spotted big name actors/actresses in years later after the fact?

I always find it amusing when a movie is rereleased, and it contains a big star's earlier role, before they got big. Generally, the movie will emphasize that star, even if he only had like two lines. For examples of this, look at Asphalt Jungle, which featured a young Marilyn Monroe in a very small role. In later releases, she is the most prominent on the posters and dvd covers. Another example is Tom Cruise in the Outsiders.

Dazed & Confused was the movie that made me know the name of Matthew McConaughey. Classic character in that movie. Renee Zellweger and Ben Affleck, though, I wouldn't recognize them until watching it again after they made it big.

I used to watch it when I was younger all the time...then down the line a little I watched years later and I was shocked too...I like that movie...someone should remake it.

Krull is up there with Lou Ferigno's Hercules as classic sci-fi/fantasy cheese that is worth watching!

Although I'd put Krull on a higher pedestal.
