Clooney may direct political flick.

by IGN Staff
US, October 10, 2007 - Leonardo DiCaprio is now set to star in the politically-themed drama Farragut North, an adaptation of Beau Willimon's stage play that's setup at Warner Bros.
George Clooney, today's Variety says, will produce and is considering directing the project.
Willimon, a playwright who has worked for several political campaigns including Howard Dean's 2004 presidential run, is penning the script.
The story reportedly revolves around an idealistic communications director (DiCaprio) who, while working for a fast-rising presidential candidate, falls victim to the backstabbing and trickery of rival politicians.
The play will make its Broadway debut next year with Jake Gyllenhaal in the stage role, Variety says.

It's unclear when production on the project might get underway.

Hmmmmm, ive liked a lot of Leo's recent choices but i'm not sure about this one.

I don't want Leo to get all political and preachy like a certain Clooney :csad:

^^^That was my thoughts when i read the description, rather than a thriller or a drama it may turn into a soap box for their political views.

Y'know, on one hand, I do have that concern and it is a really big concern but on the other, Clooney is proving to be a damn talented director. Look at Syriana. It wasn't ridiculously preachy. If Clooney can pull it off without crossing the very thin line between having a message and being on a soap box once again, I applaude him.

I liked Syrianna but Clooney didn't direct that or did i misread you ? at either rate it is a fine line and it is a talented combo, hopefully they get it right.

My mistake, I was mixing it up with Good Night and Good Luck (which incidentially also walked that line and did not cross it). He only produced Syriana.

I still need to see that, Ive heard good things, I'll be giving this one a chance, as i said for me right now DiCaprio is on a roll and any project he is in is of interest to me.

Funny that only 10yrs ago, people said DiCaprio sucked as an actor, time really does make a person better at his craft.
Either that, or DiCaprio still sucks but he chooses great movies with great supporting cast members

Which one do you think it is, fellow board members?

Both.

Every time I see this thread I think it's about Alaska. :cmad:
Two great things should one day come together.

i think he had some good performances early in his career , im sure working with scorsese has helped him improve but hes proved himself numerous times

Not sure about Pine's talent yet but Hoffman and Giamatti have upped my interest in this film a bit.

I love Clooney as a director and its quite a cast. Sounds interesting

Now titled "The Ides Of March"

That poster is one of the best this year.

Looks great. I've heard nothing but good things about the play (I would have been curious to see Pine in this role, but Gosling is admittedly an upgrade), I love Clooney as a director, and he's assembled a killer cast. I'm there.

Yep, looks like Clooney directed another solid film and also, what a cast!

we need to change the name of the thread to 'Ides of march'.

I'm glad to see that Gosling is the lead actor in this. As of late, his output has certainly increased, and I enjoy it because I'm all on board the Gosling train.

Anyway, the trailer was great and the cast in this is amazing. The film is definitely on the "must-see" list.
