The Natural Disasters Around the World Thread

I know of at least two members who live there.

One of the administrators on the Supergirl page on SHH, Kelly, lives in Houston. I hope to God she is OK. It might be days before anyone hears from her.

Just heard Houston has been flooded with 11 TRILLION , THAT'S RIGHT, TRILLION gallons of water.

Kelly is OK.....she's afraid her car will go under water, but otherwise she is safe.

I don't know anyone there but the news coverage has been pretty scary. :( Hope everyone makes out okay.

I've been working and living at Houston Methodist Hospital for four days now. I'm safe here but it's been beyond exhausting. I'm keeping the animals fed and clean in the research department. I'm sore and I miss my daughter.

Keep safe moviedoors....and don't over do it.

I live in the Houston area as well. Luckily I was in Austin when it hit. Not sure when I will be able to head back.

Much love from the 6ix from right here in Toronto

All of you guys in Houston are in my prayers seriously and for whoever lives in the Houston area you guys will come back even stronger than ever after Hurricane Harvey. Now that I have no doubt.

I just hope you guys will be able to head back home to your homes soon and I continue to watch the news too. So far, what I have already seen has broken my heart and some of the lives lost as a result of Hurricane Harvey I mean my heart goes out to those families who have lost someone in this hurricane.

Appreciate the sentiment. Means a lot to us.

You welcome and I can only hope that you guys recover from this. Given in the past how we had Hurricane Katrina and how it ravaged New Orleans seeing Hurricane Harvey as well as its aftermath it really makes you think about others in a way that perhaps you never did before.

I'm from Houston. It's rough seeing the city underwater.
Watching it all unfold before your eyes. Following the weather on the news knowing which areas are being hit hardest and knowing that's where friends and family are.
Hoping and praying that they survive because the storm is doing things that even the meteorologists have trouble calculating.
Seeing all the men women and children being saved, but knowing that when night fell that they were stuck on there roofs in the endless rain.
It's hard to put into words being face to face with an unimaginable nightmare.
I was one of those that were blessed to be safe, yet one can't feel anything but helpless watching as everything around you quickly engulfing in murky water.
Feeling helpless because you want to do so much and save others, but being trapped and unable to do anything but watch.
Watching as places you know just disappear into +30ft of water.
There are events that happened that many will never hear on the news because either it was edited or was never reported.
Imagine being caught in the flood with friends trying to get home and one of them is swept away and presumed dead only to to be swallowed into the sewer. Screaming for help in complete darkness in hopes that someone would hear. Things that you can't see crawling on you and biting you until finally you find a way out and find your way home.
Stories like that you won't hear unless you know these people or have been here.
The terror is unfathomable and the nightmare still isn't over for many people.
I admire all of those that came together for this city and I thank those that show and share the beautiful heroes that have and are coming forward.
Though, I want you guys to know that there is so much more to it all that you can't wrap your minds around.

Being fatigued and trapped at the hospital has been a blessing in disguise. I've been too busy to dwell on what's happening outside. When I do stop and look at the news for a moment, it's overwhelming.

It truly is. Glad to hear that you and others here on the Hype are safe.

I've been wanting to call my brother, but since Dallas doesn't seem to get the major flooding at the moment, and he probably still has to pull some extra work as a cop, I've not bothered him.

Does anyone know of any places in the NYC area that are accepting clothes to go over there?

Personally I know people in the Houston area and honestly my heart goes out to them right now...hell I am worried scared even for their safety

So, I'm in Houston, actually, and my street is flooded, so I've been stuck in the house since Sunday. Fortunately, the water hasn't reached our door and we still have power and food, and internet, and all that good stuff, so we feel incredibly blessed. I've even been continuing to work from home, and mostly chilling. My wife and friend are starting to get cabin fever though, and we're expecting more rain tomorrow so we may be here a whole additional week, it's not clear.

Houston is my hometown, and this whole week has been heartbreaking. Thankfully my parents are fine and safe. We aren't sure if water has hit their home yet.

My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who has been affected by this, and as a born and bred Houston, I know the city can recover.
