Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Monster Hunter World is one of the few games I bought, that I ended up only playing it for a few hours. One of my worst gaming purchases. I simply couldn't get into it.

Sounds good. A friend said he could give me a bunch of stuff to give me a headstart too. Will hold him to that when I get a block of time to start it (probably not till next year). I’m pretty sure I’ll wind up addicted lol as I’m into the concept of it.

Both World and Rise at this point have "catch up" armors to get you to the expansions faster. So the games will be a bit more forgiving as you learn the ropes.

I was like that with Tri. But, I tried again with Tri Ultimate for Wii U, and it just clicked.

State of Play was not good uninteresting games Concord will be a huge dud mark my words silent Hill 2 was the only thing promising but it’s a remake … Definitely worried for Sonys first Party lineup I pray that by the time PS6 comes around they will find a solution to their release schedule
The deserved success of Helldivers 2 is unfortunately also a bit of a double edged sword IMO, as now they have that one success in live service which is all they needed in the initial batch to overall justify the strategy. I think/hope the existing single player studios will for the most part keep doing those big, high quality, cinematic narrative games (a shame that they now take so much longer to make), but I expect live service to take a higher and higher percentage of the future budget going forward. The only chance against that was if all of the original batch had failed.

Are the games the same on all systems? If so will be looking for tips when I get around to them. :cwink:

World is on PC, PS, and Xbox. Rise is also on Switch (Capcom can do some black magic with the RE ending).

And appears to be on sale right now.

Astro Bot looks fun.

As a whole though, that was lukewarm for a 30 minute presentation.

Hmm it seems like everytime Sony does a State of Play presentation, they get some Pr and I see a lot of people doing live reactions. In the future, they really need to put more of a show, instead of just compiling several games that will be out soon or in 5 years. People watch these livestreams for a reason, and the last time they really wowed me was during a livestream, when they revealed Horizon 2 and a bunch of exclusives. The Playstation 5 reveal was also huge. I remember staying late just to see all the announcements. With this latest one, I watched it in the afternoon and my lukewarm expectations were right.

Like who would have guessed, an Astro Bot reveal would be the best reveal here, when years ago, Astro 2020, was just merely a smaller part of a big line up.

I don't understand remastering Until Dawn when its already playable in PS5. More pc ports would only excite those who don't have a Playstation and don't plan to get a Ps5. Who really watches State of Play to know the next PC port? Concord is a livestream service/online-only game and my initial thought (from the moment it was announced before) was I'm going to save some money in the future, since it won't be added to my waitlist. The game looks very similar to a lot of online games out there. It looks very generic, maybe it would sell, but its just not for me.

This would have been a good time to reveal the Ps5 pro, a Spider-Man 2 DLC, and the next game for Bend Studio and Naughty Dog but nope. I don't think its ever gonna be more exciting as the other shows that Playstation studios are supposed to be taking part of, this summer as well.

$250 million for a single game and a new Ip are huge... based from reports, this will have live service elements so this better be great if they want to make a profit from this game. And we know how live service ruined a lot of single player games in the last 4 years.

I think next year’s showcase will show plenty of classic Sony cinematic narrative heavyweight stuff for old school fans. All the live service games aimed at Gen Z could dilute the excitement going forward though if they don’t balance it/work it in in a way that makes it feel natural and not like it’s dominating (even if the plan is for that).

Yeah nothing I am going to get

The Sony slate is so boring. Hooray for Astrobot though.
I LOVE Astrobot! :D This SoP would have been a waste of time for the most part without that and Monster Hunter. I can enjoy live service more than most, but I don't need SoPs and showcases for that. Hero shooters and battle royales etc are not something I'm going to get excited about from watching. I'll wait for them to come out and then play them to see if I like them. Feels like a good while since we got the classic Sony 1st party magic. I hope they don't wait till next year to reveal everything.

Today, there’s a hit show on HBO based on the game, with a second season on the horizon. And yet, said Druckmann, who is now the sole leader of Naughty Dog, “I promise you, we will not be ‘The Last of Us’ studio forever.” Numerous games, he said, are in the works, including “multiple single-player projects.”

I’m really looking forward to TLOU3 and think it’s going to be a defining trilogy that moved gaming forward, but I’m glad ND will be doing new projects. Especially that rumoured fantasy one please. Them being done with Uncharted I’m not quite as ok with lol, one of my favourite series of all. I want those coming out forever.

I prefer a new ip than resurrecting those ips.

Also, they might need a new studio to release games for those dormant ips. The current studios of Sony are already preoccupied with something else.

That’s what the Partner Studios are for ;)

Agreed with this article so much! Need to add Syphon Filter and SOCOM to that list along with Jak and Dexter, Motorcross, and Infamous
I'd take all of those! Strange how Killzone and Resistance were left to die as they could have been ongoing franchises. They should have got others studios good at shooters to take them forward with the original studios having their hands full. I'd have liked one more Infamous game at least too.

Not really. Nixxes focuses on PC ports. So that just leaves Bluepoint and Valkyrie. How many dormant ips were mentioned in that article? Bluepoint released their own game in 2020, and is currently working on a new IP. The next game after that could take several years as well. I don't think Valkyrie have released their own game.

Partner studios could be studios Sony doesn't own and just choose to work with, possibly funding the games (but not necessarily). Their main studios seem to already have plenty of projects lined up, yeah.

Not sure which non-1st party studios, would take those dormant ips. Resistance and Killzone became dormant for a reason. And it was during at that time, when Sony was developing several third-person action adventure/open world games - which both Killzone and Resistance didn't really belong to. Resistance's later games were PS Vita only games and we know what happened with PS Vita.

The studio behind Killzone - Guerilla moved on to Horizon, which is a more interesting and more successful IP. Insomniac and Bend (which both worked on Resistance) have also moved on with much more interesting ips.

I however think, if they plan to resurrect those ips, they should probably should port the older games to PS4/5 first, asthose would be extra sales, especially if a revival is imminent.
