Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Sony sitting with huge stocks of PS5's just waiting and costing money for a couple of years would be crazy. The solution to a problem isn't to make it worse.

I have plenty of experience developing advanced manufacturing solutions for a company with both a global presence and customer base, and there is absolutely no way that doing something like Sony delaying the launch due to the pandemic would ever be viable in that stage of production.

Reseller Site StockX Claims It Has Sold More Than 130,000 PS5 Consoles

Yeah I hate reading things like this. Its obvious plenty of people (outside retailers) only bought a ps5 just to make a profit for themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if a million out of 7.8 ps5's record breaking sales came from scalpers/resellers. From North America to Europe to Asia to Australia, scalping the ps5 has been a trend.

I heard 10% of ps5 have been by scalping that would be about 780,00. A million I really dont believe.

130,000 ps5s has been sold in the U.S. alone and thats just from 1 site under 6 months. Add up ebay, facebook accounts and other businesses/ordinary people who are scalping and reselling ps5s around the world. Its not impossible that there's 870 thousand more ps5s resold in other websites globally. 780k isn't far for a million as well. Thats literally more than 3/4 of a million.

PS5 and Xbox Series scalpers have reportedly made over $28m on eBay | VGC

Last December, 7,322 PS5 Digital Edition consoles, and 25,642 PS5 disc edition were sold in Ebay. The number probably sky rocketed by now.

So adding those numbers up from Ebay in December. Its not impossible that 830k more ps5s were outsold elsewhere for the last siX months.

Also I looked up this more and found this

PS5 Scalper Sales Reportedly Account For 10 Percent Of All Units Sold

But thats from February 1 and I don't think that includes casual resellers who don't really own their own bots. Even if its just nearly 10% that is still a lot, and further made things harder for genuine buyers to buy and play using the ps5.

It really is a shame that the start of this new console cycle has been marred by such shortages for both new consoles. And to hear that this shortage may continue until next year is just crazy!

What good is releasing all of these new gen games if a large portion of the player base can't play them to their fullest because they are unable to buy one of the new consoles?

The games that were and are getting released now have been in development for quite some time, and it would be unfair for the 7.8 million who have bought a ps5 already not to get any games. I'm totally stoked about the new Ratchet game because I will get to play it in only a few month's time. It's more of an issue of balancing physical copy-stock with consoles sold. There really aren't that many ps5 games out yet

I think ps5-only games are having a harder time selling out in retail stores compare to games like Miles Morales and Re8 which are available in Ps4, the latter is available in more platforms. Can you imagine if Ghost of Tsushima launched this year and is a Ps5 eXclusive. It wouldn't sold as much copies like it did last year. I think games like Returnal and Demon's Soul are also likely to collect more dust in retail stores. My retail store has plenty of stock for ps5 only games. Plenty of stock for Dualsense as well.... but no PS5 console in sight.

It's a problem, that's for sure. The next generation can't properly begin until consoles are readily available.

Imagine how many more people are going to play the new Ratchet & Clank neXt month, if only everybody can get the ps5 instantly.

They literally took out the fun of buying a new console.

Yeah, I would rather stay permanently a generation behind than giving in and buying from a scalper, and thereby supporting the practise and lining the pockets of the people who have done this.

So, I got the playstation 5 today and I've been playing non-stop. I only have Crash 4 right now but it's a fantastic game too.

Short controller review: I was surprised by this one, the haptic-feedback feels oddly satisfying (Astro's Playroom really illustrates it to the max). I can totally imagine how a game like Ratchet & Clank can benefit from this. That said, I might turn it off sometimes, I don't always enjoy getting resistance from the triggers, as immersive as it might be

Congrats on getting hold of one! It's good that it can be turned off so you can get the benefit of it when you feel like it and otherwise it won't bother you. Astro's Playroom seems like it was designed to get the most out of the haptic-feedback.

Question to you tech-savvies out there: when I turn off the console, it makes a light "crackling"/popping sound for about 10 seconds after shutting down.

Also, when I play a game on disc, the console does a quiet hum that is not present when playing a digital download game. Are these things normal? The hum sounds like a normal functional fan but I expected it to be quieter

That dosnt sound right to me. A popping sound dosnt sound normal and when playing games and I only play like disc games I like cant even tell the system is on has its so quite.

Awesome!! Congrats and welcome to the PS5 fam!! :)

I agree about the haptic triggers. They definitely take some time to get used to and it can be quite jarring when you first experience the resistance from the triggers. However, I am getting more used to it and now it's hard to go back and play games without the haptic feedback.

The Dualsense controller is just as much a next-gen innovation as the console itself.

I tested the console's own recording feature. This is what it looks like, Miles Morales in performance-rt mode.
