Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

That new model looks it would collect more dust with that opened slit.

Its a design flaw to me.

I don't like edges where dust can easily pile up. I'm already doing that with the sides of my ps4 slim which I don't enjoy the process.
I'm personally fine with it, but I've acknowledged that the overall design has been polarizing since the OG was first unveiled.

A lot of people say that since the console is dependent on a stand means that the design language is flawed.

Just recently I bought dbrand's custom face plates for my friend's birthday

PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99

In May, we gave a quick peek at our dedicated PS5 remote play device – now called PlayStation Portal remote player, and our first wireless earbuds, called Pulse Explore. Today we’re pleased to share more details about these products and reveal a new PlayStation over-the-ear wireless headset, Pulse Elite. Both Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore deliver low latency lossless audio from PS5 and PlayStation Portal using our new PlayStation Link wireless technology.
PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s expected from the high quality games created by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.***

Hmm. It doesn't seem very eXpensive. Its a reasonable price. Its cool for those who wants to play ps games in a smaller screen.

I guess I still don't understand why someone would buy this when you can already functionally do this on a phone?

Should have just created a actual PlayStation portable device
Thats more risky though especially if it can't play ps4/5 games and if its like the psvita/psp. I'm also not sure how cloud streaming for big playstation games works right now for it to work like the Switch.

The Playstation 5 wouldn't be gigantic in physical size, if it can easily run these demanding games.

So this accessory is for those who have some eXtra cash and wants to play their playstation games like the Switch. Though they would to make sure it is close enough to the ps5.

I feel like Nintendo has singlehandedly cornered the handheld console market with the Switch that it's futile for Sony or Microsoft to even try to compete.

However, what I think would be a cool idea is for them to make a handheld console with a disc drive capable of playing PS1, PS2 and PS3 games that's more of a nostalgic retro throwback novelty item similar to the NES/SNES Classic than a direct competitor with the Switch.

PlayStation 0 would be fun. I said 0 as PS0 would be a cool name.

I've done a lot of remote play from Ps Vita to MacBooks and sometimes it's perfect, and sometimes it's very spotty even on the same wifi network. I'm gonna guess that this device being dedicated to remote should work better.

There was also always a .06 second lag whenever I did remote play so I wonder if somehow Sony got rid of it with the Portal

Maybe there's some feature it does have, but from all the press coverage I saw, it seemed to be running off the exact same remote wireless functionality as a phone would, only it's a dedicated device. But I don't really see the function of this, if you can't use it like a Switch as a reliable portable gaming device? Feels like a really niche group of people would use this? Or like, kids who can't get access to a family television? I dunno, feels like a weird one for that price point.

Yeah I agree. I think it will be for a niche group of people or just kids or anyone in the house who has to share the television that the Ps5 is plugged into. Major misfire by Sony to not include cloud streaming as an option or even Bluetooth and God knows what else the thing is lacking.

The screen itself is lcd, and I don't even know if it's 4K. For the price and what you get it should have been 50% less.

Is this device expected to get cloud streaming later? Thought I read that somewhere. That would give it some appeal.

PS5 Ahead of PS4 at US Retail in Time-Aligned Sales - PlayStation LifeStyle

The PS5 will have an eXtra year for itself (unlike PS4's 2013 to 2020 era) if PS6 is released by 2028.

Its hard for me to predict whats in store for the future - tech wise, but unless PS6 can be as slim as a vinyl player or laptop that can run games with graphiX that look identical to live action films, then okay there should be a new console by that time.

that would be great if that was the case, but from what I read it omits cloud streaming entirely. maybe I am wrong, though

Oh, if whatever I thought I read that it might be added later isn’t right then this device seems pretty useless lol. Can’t see it doing too well.

Sony constantly taking more and more Ls lately, they just raised the prices of psplus...

This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Sooo...do they not have this enablement with the current prices??? WTF
