Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

This has easily been the worst generation I've been a part of. Not only are the games coming out at the pace of a leaky faucet, but when they do arrive they aren't the instant classics that defined earlier eras. They're also usually unfinished, and require months of patches to reach a serviceable state (if they ever get fixed at all). I barely even touch my Pro anymore.

For me, its the selection of games. Most are soulslike, or heavily dwelve on fantasy in a forest/medieval setting, its just not very interesting to me. I am already ignoring sports/fps/multiplayer games, then I had to include those genres as well.

Then some games I've added to my wishlist ended up getting lukewarm reviews like Mindseye, Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights. And I'm like do I have to really wait for those games to go on sale and my wishlist isn't even that long to begin with.

Then the franchises just left me waiting for ages for a new game, and its just not very fun.

Destruction AllStars is exclusive to PS5 and given the state of the game, is never hitting PC.

Other PS5 games (first party) that don't have a PC port yet.

-Demon's Soul (2020)
-Horizon: Call of the Mountain (2023)
-Astro Bot (2024)
I'm really looking forward to Demon's Soul on PC. Seems like I'm not the only one.

I wonder what would've happened if Sony made the Ps3 cheaper out of the gate. get rid of Ps2 BC, get rid of those card readers, get rid of the glossiness, get rid of the extra 2 USB ports...maybe they could've brought the cost down closer to $400 out of the gate.

I don't know. I think a lot of the cost saving came from the eventual die shrink, which wouldn't have been technologically possible at launch. There's also all of the development and engineering work that went into developing the cell processor. It was a custom design, not at all like the off the shelf PC and mobile parts from PS4. The PS3 would've needed a fundamentally different design ethos to be cheaper at launch.

but even without the eventual die shrink, wouldn’t the changes I mentioned bring the cost down by at least $100?
