Synopsis : A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON tells the story of Zak (Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (LaBeouf), a small time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.

I saw this trailer when I went to The Art of Self Defense. It looks cute and will probably make me cry. I'll give it a shot.

Not a huge LeBeouf fan, but I really like what I see in the trailers. Might go and see this one in theaters if I get that Regal Unlimited pass.

Apparently it's very well acted, especially Shia. Wonder if it'll get anything come awards season.

Really enjoyed this. It's just a solid and enjoyable adventure dramedy with a very charismatic and charming performance from Shia LaBeouf and solid performances from Dokota Johnson and the guy who played Zak. I also enjoyed the brief supporting roles from John Hawkes, Bruce Dern and Thomas Haden Church, although it was kind of strange to me how they utilized John Bernthal in this movie. For him to be such a significant character in terms of his relationship with Shia I thought it was weird how we only saw him in flashbacks and didn't actually get to hear any of dialogue in his interactions with Shia which definitely hurt the emotional impact of those scenes IMO. Also, man did that ending take a weird turn with that wrestling scene.
