I freaking love Garner and his work, Support Your Local Gunfighter/Sherriff, Maverick, The Rockford Files,etc. I know a remake was in the works but didn't go to series. Garner is a hard guy to replace in the first place and Dermont Mulroney jus wasn't the guy to even try. He has always been slighty more pretty buy type than Garner. Garner is good looking, built like an average guy, and charming as hell. Like Han Solo a little(yes...he does pre date solo).In my opinion there is one guy I think could play any of Garners roles and thats Jeffery Dean Morgan( not Josh Hollaway).

and Nathan Fillion gets my second vote if there has to be one.Although I love the guy he does get mentioned for everything.

In my opinion there is one guy I think could play any of Garners roles and thats Jeffery Dean Morgan( not Josh Hollaway).

haha, that is so funny that you said that about Holloway of all people, because I think James Garner would disagree with you.
I can't recall where I heard this story, whether in a sci-fi mag, or on some Lost dvd extra...but it is true. The cast of Lost were all standing around in an airport, presumably on their way to Hawaii, and James Garner happened to be there(iirc, he was in a wheelchair?), he took a look over at them, spotted Holloway, and said words to the effect of 'that guy there...he could do it, he could really go far.'

As for the show, it was one of those shows that I was aware of when i was very little, but i never watched, but i ended up catching a couple of eps here and there over the years, not many though, not enough to really comment on, I liked the relationship he had with his dad, that is the only thing i can really recall about it.
and of course the theme tune is one of the greats of the 70s tv shows.

I have nothing against Hollaway but with MI4 happening it seems like his film career may be on the move and Morgan seems to be hit and miss with his to the point that I think he would be open to a tv show. I watched Lost and Sawyer was my favorite guy on there. I too didn't grow up with Rockford, I'm too young. However I got caught up in Garner with Support your local Gunfighter which lead me to Maverick and the Rockford. I don't think they make actors like him anymore. Jeffery Dean Morgan,Thomas Jane, Jason Statham, they are rugged old fashoned actors in the vein of Eastwood,Bronson,McQueen,etc

i liked jamesgraner i higlyreocmed watching 8 simplerules mondaysthur firdayat 3:00pm on abcfmaily he plays the grandpapa it had john rited then he died so he plays thegrandpapa it mostly the older epsidoe i higlyreocmmed checking it out. i rember one time people ask him if jenffer garner was his kid. i thought that was funny. i loved therock fordfile iused to watch them all the time on wgn and tv land. i wish they would put it back on.
