Just too many of them?..
Let's make a list and discuss the points... I'm not saying it's good or bad to have those similarities (but maybe it is too bad having so many of them), I just want to explore this topic to see whether people see and feel it in the same way or not. :cwink:

HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD! obviously...

- Resistance a.k.a. Rebels - from things you know from the film, where the political situation is explainted very little, it feels like they've just changed the name to make it feel fresh but it's the same thing nonetheless. X-wings, Ackbar, Leia...

- First Order a.k.a. Imperium, the same thing only retitled. Stormtroopers, Tie fighters, Star Destroyers, space battle stations, you know...

- Starkiller Base a.k.a. Death Star 3.0 - Man, this was really too much. I thought the idea was great, a planet-sized base that feeds on the stars, but everything else... Did they really had to destroy it like in ANH and TROTJ that it cannot outlive even one movie? Did they really destroyed it in so similar manner i.e. take down the shield like in TROTJ and then shoot the thermal oscillator's conduit a.k.a. thermal exhaust shaft like in ANH. Did the X-wings really flown inside that surface corridor like in ANH? I could not believe it, it was sooo similar it felt like a straight remake. And more importantly, was that base really needed in the film at all? I liked it but on the other hand, its purpose plot-wise was too similar to previous film.

- Snoke a.k.a. Emperor, nearly indentical setting to TESB. Hologram of superior talking to his subordinates in the dark room. The difference being only Vader had enough decency to kneel? :woot:

- Kylo Ren a.k.a. Vader - You could say Vader was evil but Kylo is more torn character. Well, the end of TROTJ is exactly the same thing and even Luke says that explicitly, that Vader is not pure dark side evil, instead he is in inner conflict. Kylo Ren then (and even before and from some distance) really seems and feels like Vader remake/replacement.

- Hux a.k.a. Imperial general who even talks back to Ren like Admiral Motti talked back to Vader. Even these little details are so similar.

- Jakku a.k.a. Tatooine.

- Rey a.k.a. Luke alike, a young somewhat lonely person on the desert planet who finds the droid and leaves the place.

- Han Solo death a.k.a. we are on the gantry above some deep shaft, father and son and someone young and important and central character of the series is witness to the whole thing, just Obi-wan/Vader ANH, Vader/Luke TESB, Vader/Luke/falling Emperor TROTJ scenes remake.

- Poe a.k.a. sassy Han alike.

- "join me" moment a.k.a. all the "join me" moments before (but yea, that is the true Star Wars moment)

- pulling a light-saber from a snow. (so important detail, I know :D)

Story-wise a.k.a the original trilogy, mainly A New Hope, rehash

- Story begins with a gunfight against Stormtroopers. At the end of it a dark lord comes in searching for something hidden from him. He unsuccessfully interrogates some unimportant character and kills it.

- Some important character hides the thing the dark lord is looking for into a cute droid and then sends him somewhere away from him (onto some desert planet). After that the important character is captured.

- The cute droid, after some troubles with a local scavengers, is found by a somewhat lonely young native, who is latently strong the Force. The meeting with the cute droid puts that character into conflict with "imperial" forces that are trying to find that cure droid with the secret plan.

- The young loner on his run from the "imperium" meets an action guy who doesn't use the Force, walking carpet (love you Chewie :woot:), and an old guy, who tells him (her in this case) about the Force.

- There is a command officer who activates some cosmic weapon of mass destruction to show the power of "imperium" to the rest of the galaxy and who, despite not being force-sensitive, back talks the dark lord without any visible signs of fear.

- The young loner learns more about the Force, the action guy who doesn't use the Force tries to cop out of the situation but is persuaded to go inside the cosmic weapon station to rescue some important character.

- Some important device is switched off on the space station and after that the confrontation between the dark lord and the old mentor begind. They have some common past, they were close to each other. The dark lord kills the somewhat defenseless mentor.

- "Rebels" attack the space station and they are trying to destroy its weak spot. They succeed. A lot of "imperial" stuff is destroyed but the dark lord escapes.

- The young loner character ends up on a distant planet with some other old mentor.

Did I forget something?

But the most important SW ingredient was missing a.k.a. nobody looses his arm.

That actually shocked me quite a bit, because even Star Wars: The Old Republic kept that tradition alive with the One-Armed Bandit Arcann.

This wasn't the first Star Wars movie that didn't feature someone losing an arm/hand. That would be The Phantom Menace.

Well, there was an arm scene, it just got axed either in post or sometime during writing.
