We all know dogs, cats, sometimes birds and fish are the ideal pets. But if you were to get an oddball choice for one, what would it be?

I use to have a pet ferret when I was younger... that was unconventional

if I had to pick one, now? Fennec Fox's are cool
(hypothetically speaking of course, owning exotic pets is abit unethical)

I would want a Raven.

I think even a regular fox would be very cool. :) I've seen pictures of domesticated foxes and I've always wanted one.

It's a living Muppet!

If I wasn’t such a nervous Nancy, I would love a pet hawk. Or an iguana even.

When I was a kid in California we had a desert tortoise that lived in our back yard. He was very cool. Ate lots of lettuce.

I used to have an African Dwarf Frog in my aquarium.

And speaking of frogs; I've strongly considered Dart Frogs before. They are only poisonous if they eat the right kinds of insects so after 6 months or so in captivity they are safe to handle, although I would avoid touching as much as possible. Bonus though: a lot of them are captive bred now so there is that much less ethical dilemma about any more wild caught ones being taken from their native habitat.

When I was a kid I thought about keeping snakes but that's not as appealing anymore. Plus my cats would love to try playing with a snake more than a frog.

What does a wombat even eat? Lol....

Man, Ferrets are awesome. Friendliest pets I've seen beside dogs. Very playful, intelligent and fun. Don't be shoeless around them, feet are delicious to them. Also, they are a bit of a flight risk when out of their cage. Keep doors well shut. Don't just jump on a wrinkly bed, you may crush him in his hiding spot. Also, they stink.

Most of the unconventional pets out there I wouldn't have due to the smell.

Hamsters, domesticated rats... I've heard pet rats being compared to dogs and having individual personalities.

I actually like the light musky smell of ferrets. :)

Outside of a dog or a cat, a ferret would probably be my choice, too.
