The worst screenwriters thread

Well A Beautiful Mind was the epitome of Oscar bait if there was one. Not Howard's finest moments.

But you know what was underrated as all hell? Howard's and Goldsman's Cinderella Man.

Haha, I hate Cinderella Man more than A Beautiful Mind.

Star Trek 09 was about as "good" as GI Joe and Transformers 2. Perhaps even worse, since the latter two at least made some sense within their own rules while Abrams movie was a sheer disaster. The marketing let some of you think otherwise.

I wasn't following the marketing, so I can't agree.

I was actually underwhelmed by the marketing for ST '09, and definitely wasn't planning on seeing it. But the glowing WOM swayed me otherwise, and I still like it. I haven't seen it for a while, but I plan on a refresher screening next year.

The script for ST '09 definitely wasn't amazing, but you could tell Orci & Kurtzman really loved the characters (as opposed to their TF films). The character interaction in ST '09 was great, but the story could've used more tweaking (especially Eric Bana's one-note villain).

Ummmm..okay. If you don't like ST09, that's fine but don't say Transformers 2 made more sense and was better.

What the movie did was made people, or at least the public, care about Star Trek and it succeeded. While I don't think Star Trek 09 was at the same level as 'Batman Begins' or Casino Royale in the reboot world, it held it's own with its sheer sense of fun that seemed refreshing at the time. The only problem is the lack of the intellect-driven narrative from (most) of the movies and original show. It was Star Wars with Star Trek skin, and JJ wasn't hiding it. That being said, it was successful to me.
