Finally getting around to reading Jericho's first book, A Lion's Tale. Really good, hilarious and insightful.

Interesting bit here that took place early in his career:

After discovering the Roth style of promo wasn't for me, I learned an important lesson--the first of three seminal moments in my promo development. I had done an interview about my first match with Bulldog (Bulldog Bob Brown) and I was talking about how old and slow he was, just burying him. I thought it was pretty good, until I walked back to the dressing room and Bulldog stopped me in front of everyone. "What the hell are you doing? Yeah I'm old and everybody knows it. But I want you to think about this. If I beat you, and I WILL be beating you, then you just got beat by an old man. If you beat me, and you WILL NOT be beating me, then you just beat up and old man. If you talk about how much experience I have and then I cheat to beat you, then at least you got beat by an experienced vet. And if you beat me, well ****, then you just beat an experienced vet. The way it stands right now, you just pissed all over yourself. You look like a fool either way."

He walked away muttering to himself, and I realized he was right. The first big lesson I learned about promos (get out your pens, kids) was: "Never Totally Bury Your Opponent." You can tell jokes and insult them all you want, but if you don't build them up to some extent, you're just burying yourself.

Obviously HHH is the exception to this rule. :o

HBK Comments on Who's Inducting Him, Plans After He Retired, More

Posted by Marc Middleton on 03/21/2011
- Shawn Michaels was recently interviewed by Brian Fritz of BetweenTheRopes.com. When asked if Triple H will be inducting him into the Hall of Fame this year, he said:

"I don't know that we've decided all that. I get the final decision on that and it's hard to narrow it down to one, and that's what I've been telling him. I've got it down to two. And I'm running out of time."

Shawn also revealed that plans were in place if he wanted to keep wrestling after the WrestleMania match against The Undertaker. He said:

"We had a couple, little back-up plans if (I) wanted to come back maybe and do a little retirement tour and do it this way. I can remember after that match, me, Taker, and Michael Hayes were sitting in a room by ourselves taking it all in. Just very quiet. And Michael Hayes spoke up and said, 'Ya know, if that's the last one, I understand.' And I looked over at him and said, 'That's it.' What I'm saying is they left it open and it was one of those things I was allowed to call on the fly. If I wanted to do something - maybe a little retirement tour and at least say good-bye to everybody, we could find a way to get that done, too. But, after that one, I just knew that was it. It really gets real then."

Jericho needs to be added to creative to help Triple H.

Looks like the Sexy Beast will be one of the last to dance.

Yes, I'm going to vote.

I would love after WM, Michael Cole becomes Jack Swagger manager. Swagger is really good but lacks the the mike skills to be a true top gun with his lisp. With Cole doing his talking I think he can become a super-heel.

Trish Stratus: "When You're a Girl in WWE, You're One of the Boys"
The legendary Diva and WWE Tough Enough trainer talks to IGN about yoga, Lita, Chyna and Natalya.
US, March 21, 2011
by Matt Fowler

USA network's all-new reboot of WWE Tough Enough is set to premiere April 4th at 11/10c, the day after WrestleMania XXVII, immediately following RAW. IGN had the chance to visit the set of this hard-hitting reality competition, walk through the sweet digs over at the Simi Valley Spanish-style ranch (nestled in the Santa Susana Mountains) and talk to series trainer and former seven-time WWE Women's Champion, Trish Stratus.

"A lot of the contestants have a background," Trish told us. "They come from wrestling backgrounds. They've been doing it for a few years, but it's an entirely different thing to be doing it on the big stage and to do it professionally and to do it with the grind of the big WWE machine."

Trish then talked openly about how she's brought her love of yoga into the world of Tough Enough and incorporated it into the contestants' warming up regimen. "I got into yoga at one point and I didn't realize that something like yoga would be a tool that would actually help me as an athlete and just become a better wrestler and increase my longevity in the wrestling industry," she said. "So, bringing that sort of experience and then trying to integrate it in the first time I was like 'we're going to yoga, everybody' and they're like 'oh, easy little yoga', like they didn't expect a challenge." Of course, everybody quickly learned that intense yoga was no joke.

Who was Trish's favorite opponent in the ring? "It's hard to pick just one, but Lita and I probably had the biggest rivalry," she admitted. "The minute you put the two of us in the ring, the fans just got it. We both came in around the same time so we had been in the business for the same amount of time, which gave the fans a chance to get to know us both and grow with us and see us evolve and things like that. So, there was a real connection with the audience. So, no matter if she was a good guy or a bad guy, we always felt like we could really connect with the crowd and kind of create that 'Oh my God' moment."

With Trish herself now being a part of WrestleMania XXVII, partnering with John Morrison and The Jersey Shore's Snooki against Dolph Ziggler and LayCool, what was her personal favorite WrestleMania match? "One of my favorite ones was probably WrestleMania in Toronto -- Wrestlemania 18 (Trish vs. Jazz vs. Lita)," Stratus revealed. "I didn't win the match that evening, but it was such a special time for me because I had just entered into the WWE not too long before and to be in a woman's championship match in front of a hometown crowd was just an amazing moment. I wore my maple leaf outfit very proudly and it was just a really surreal moment. Also, the match before me was the Rock and Hulk Hogan. So, to get a little 'Go get 'em, kids' from the both of them was kind of an amazing moment."

Who is Trish a fan of nowadays? Well, she simply gushed over her fellow-Canadian Diva, Natalya. "She's untapped," Trish said with a smile. "Fans are starting to get to know her more and more and I'm just waiting for the day where she goes out there and really can do her thing because I don't think she's been given the opportunity to really get out there and show everybody what she's got."

With former Diva Sunny getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year, Trish suggested another name who she thought should be added to the list. "I think Chyna should be next in because she did a lot of stuff to bring attention to the women's division itself and just presented women as a different thing," Stratus said. "I think fans were conditioned to see women as eye candy for a long, long time and she really broke the mold with that."

Trish then talked about the importance of not separating the guys and girls into two different training camps on the Tough Enough. "To me it was really important to not really have separate groups," she said. "It was real important to show no separation. I trained with guys when I came up. So, it wasn't like, 'This is the girls' thing and this is the boys' thing.' It's an even competition all around. When you're a girl in the WWE, you're one of the boys."

Swagger actually has good mic skills it's just that people can't get over his lisp. If Dusty Rhodes debuted today he's probably be mocked more than Swagger is now.

I think people have gotten so spoiled from what we got during the attitude era that anybody who isn't GREAT on the mic gets labeled as being bad.

Here's a great little blog post which perfectly illustrates my thoughts on Why the booking for The Miz-Cena match is actually pretty good so far.

"The RAW build-up to Mania has been excellent and thoroughly deserving of the increased ratings of late and none more so than the actions of The Miz this week. To follow a opening promo from The Rock with a live promo that didn’t look out of place was an achievement (there’s some stars who have been around much longer that wouldn’t have been able to do that – Orton, Kane, Show etc…) and then to pull off the coup he did at the end of the show was awesome (no pun intended) booking and execution.
The live crowd (and me for about 2 seconds) genuinely believed Rock was there, even as Miz emerged there was still excitement in the crowd. Then came the wave of boos and jeers as it became apparent that it wasn’t The Peoples Champ. And if that wasn’t enough he then continued the theme of the previous two weeks by leaving Cena beaten cleanly and in a credible way! And that is something that few are given the opportunity to do (Nexus anybody?)"

Here's the whole blog.

that is total boosh...the more they try to get the people to take the Miz seriously, the less people actually do...he comes off as a little kid trying to get the attention of his older cousins

Dusty would be mocked today for a lot of reasons. But he was the perfect character for that time combined with great mic silks made him a legend.
To be honest while his mic skills might be good..I cant take him seriously with that lisp it just doesn't sound right. Plus he's a former world champion that was pushed too soon and needs something new...This Kurt Angle rip off isn't working. Cole is the male version of Vickie. They both draw massive heat with whoever their with. Cole can be a big time draw for any superstar's he manages.

I say we call this thread the Big Red Wrestling Machine Thread!

I agree it started out like that but now The Miz is showing that Cena can't underestimate him and The Rock has taken notice of him. It's a slow building to the big pay off I think.

the Miz is showing he doesn't belong in the same arena with the Rock or Cena.....he honestly shouldn't be even speaking the Rocks name

its sad
