Bit of an odd question but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good
thrillers(Not sci fi or fantasy stuff) set on either a plane or in the mountains?

You can try the Pendergast novels by Preston and Child (http://www.prestonchild.com/books/index.html) - detective thrillers. Mimic was based on one of their books but the resemblance of the move to book is trivial as evidenced by then main character in the book (Pendergast) not even appearing in the movie. If you like it there are several books you can read. Also Utopia, a solo effort by Lincoln Child, was pretty good.

If you're looking for more real life stuff, try Proving Ground. It's an account of the Sydney to Hobart race in 1998 that started calm and smack in the middle of it a hurricane formed out of nowhere.

I've only heard good things about this book. Is the adaptation worth a watch?

It's been a while since I watched the film. However, they did a solid job in portraying what happened. A couple critics thought it was odd cast wise to believe them as Uruguayan, but some of the survivors had roots from Northern Europe so it balanced out. [BLACKOUT]The only nitpick is the copter rescue, since in real life the survivors heard that 2 of them had reached safety so they prepared by cleaning on and wearing their best.[/BLACKOUT] Still a great film.

One of the survivors was the technical adviser for the film. Plus the DVD that came out in '02 was the 30th anniversary of the accident and one of the bonus features is a documentary that came out the same time as the movie showing the survivors 20 years after.

I was a bit disappointed in the film. I believe the book is much better in showing the harshness they had to endure.
