Top 10 Movie Composers!

Ennio Morricone, no-one comes even close to his brilliance. The Good the Bad and The Ugly, Duck you Sucker, For a Few Dollars More, Fistful of Dollars, Death Rides A Horse, the list goes on and on...

i dont know about enough composers to make a list, but i will say Danny Elfman is definitely my favorite. His Edward Scissorhands easily has to be in the top 5 scores ever composed, his Batman theme is probably the best superhero theme yet written (a few others come close), and his work in Nightmare Before Christmas is astounding thanks to his voice and penmanship (Jack's Lament is one of my favorite songs of all time).

So in your face!!

What an awesome thread!:woot: I'm a sucker for a good score. Sometimes I can listen to them for hours and hours. Here's my top 10.....

1. Klaus Badlet
2. Hans Zimmer
3. John Ottman--I'm getting into his scores more and more with each new film.
4. James Newton Howard
5. John Williams
6. Henry Gregerson-Williamson (sp?)
7. Graham Revell (anoter sp checker)
8. Danny Elfman
9. Mark Mancina
10. Marco Beltrami

Alot of us have the same taste, given that most of our picks are all the top known composers, they produce some great cues.

Danny Elfman- He is to me, what John Williams is to alot of others.
John Williams- Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter. All great.
Jerry Goldsmith- Ever watch The Omen?
Michael Giaccino- Has done movie scores, but I give him this spot for his Lost work.
Bear McCreary- I honestly dont know if he has done scores on film, but his work on BSG is simply amazing. he should be doing film scores.

My top five:

Hans Zimmer
John Barry
Murray Gold
John Williams
Danny Elfman

Top 5 for me are:

John Williams

Jerry Goldsmith

Ennio Morricone

Elmer Bernstein

Danny Elfman

John Williams
Nino Rota
Jerry Goldsmith
Howard Shore
Alexandre Desplat
Akira Infukube
Michael Giaccino
Alan Silvestri
John Carpenter
Philip Glass

In no particular order...

- Shirley Walker
- Alexandre Desplat
- Hans Zimmer*
- John Williams
- Jerry Goldsmith
- James Horner**
- Debbie Wiseman

* = Zimmer's great when he delivers something like Da Vinci Code or Sherlock Holmes, not his Nolan movies.
** = Horner's best work is mainly in early - mid 1980s... he seemed to turn out masterpieces one after the other during that time period.
