This could be a character for an established franchise like the MCU, Star Wars or the DCEU, so that would disqualify Black Panther, Aquaman and Mera as they debuted prior to this year, or it could be a character in a newly launched franchise, like if you were a fan of a character in Mortal Engines for instance.
5. Black Manta (Aquaman)
He was the Boba/Jango Fett of the movie, a cool looking villain, intense and combative with a very personal motivation and a badass suit of high tech armor, they set him up perfectly to progress into the role of lead villain in the sequel.

4. Okoye (Black Panther)
I loved Nakia but Okoye, the fierce leader of the Dora Milaje stole the show, she's charismatic, loyal and a skilled warrior, but also pretty damn humorous with her sarcasm.
3. Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War)
Big Purple is arguably the greatest villain of this kind since Darth Vader, a fearsome physical presence combined with a cerebral, genocidal single minded focus.

2. Qi'ra (Solo: A Star Wars Story)
The standout character in Solo, she's resiliant, sophisticated, resourceful and charming as well as lethal when the occassion calls for it. She's also intriguingly ambigous, did she make the call at the end of Solo to step up the ladder of Crimson Dawn's hierachy, or did she do it because she loves Han and wanted to protect him? as what she did covered up his involvement with anything that happened with Dryden Vos. Hopefully we'll find out in a TV series on Disney's streaming service.

1. The Wasp (Ant-Man & The Wasp)
"She was in the first movie!" I hear you cry! No, Hope Van Dyne was in the first movie, The Wasp debuted this year and she kicked all kinds of ass while also being quick with a one liner and smart as a whip.
