Now we are talking!

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Save-Tropic-Thunder-9742.html

DreamWorks needs to know that this is merely a very loud minority they’re dealing with. And the only way to do that is for you to tell them. Email, comments, whatever. DreamWorks is watching. Hit your keyboard and make yourself heard. Save Tropic Thunder. Save Simple Jack. Save free speech. Save adult conversation. Save the ******s.

The great thing about this movie is that Robert Downey Jr. is playing a dude who's playing a dude disguised as another dude.

Since we are on it. It would be a shame if those scenes are cut.

Robert Downey Jr's full ****** speech was one of the highlights at the movie. After it was over people in theatre of my screening started CLAPPING.

"Sean Penn, I Am Sam, 2001. Went full ******, went home empty-handed. Never go full ******."

Hmmm well you probally would of noticed me if I had my Joker stuff on but the security guard made me take it off but for some reason some chick was there as harley quinn with her make up on. It pissed me off bad

And in mentioning Rain Man and Forrest Gump, Downey Jr.’s character points out the fact that Hollywood has always shied away from featuring characters who are truly disabled; always making sure that these characters had some over-the-top ability or redeeming quality. If anything, my husband was glad that fact was brought to light here, because it’s a valid point that Hollywood (and society in general) usually rewards and accepts film characters who are only “somewhat” disabled.

Wow, this stupid lady actually got what the scene was REALLY poking fun at, and yet she still manages to claim that it was merely a ploy to demean the mentally disabled. Wow. :o

My aunt is ******ed, but I do not take offense at the scene in question because A) I know that the movie is meant to be in good fun, and B) I know that the joke was not meant to be on ******ed people, but the way Hollywood treats them.

Yeah, this bugs me so much. I feel like there are plenty of things in the world, and even just in Hollywood, to feel legitimately outraged by... but this is just like people getting together to complain because it makes them feel better. I hate it when people get up in arms about something they haven't actually seen or experienced -- this movie is NOT offensive the way they think it is. As you say, Timstuff, the joke is on the way the media treats the mentally disabled. Not on the disabled themselves.

Did anyone see Alpa Chino's myspace page, pretty funny? He has some kind of energy drink called booty sweat, it's hilarious.

TV alert : Tonight at 10:30pm on E! there will be an E! true Hollywood special on Tropic Thunder .

This movie looks pretty funny, I'll see it when it gets OnDemand.

I saw an ad in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 today, it surprised me.

I wonder how many nights these people cry themselves to sleep from someone insulting them? I'm not talking about the handicapped, but these asanine people who feel the need to boycott/protest EVERYTHING that makes fun of someone. Seriously...it's comedy. It's supposed to be off-kilter, and it's supposed to be a satire.

Will someone buy these people a freakin' dictionary and explain to them what a "satire" is? Ugh.

I was going to see this movie later on next week, but now, I think I'll go and see in the theaters opening weekend....TWICE.

How'd that boycott work out for you, now?!

I wonder what would happen if I say I'm trying to boicott the special olympics if this David Tolleson guy (promoting boycott) reamins Chairman...

And I find it fascinating that these people find the word ******, that is at worst a short form of Mental ******ation (wich I believe is a medical term), insulting, while they find perfectly good the word "disabled", wich implies that someone is not able to do stuff, and we know many people with Down Syndrome are able to work and live on their own...

Yeah, in my previous job working in customer services, I was sent on a course about how to deal with disabled customers; the 1st thing I found out from talking to people with disabilities is that a lot of them hate the term because it implies a limitation.

From AICN, the full statement from DW spokesperson (I guess saying spokesman is sexist :) )

STATEMENT FROM DREAMWORKS STUDIOS REGARDING ‘TROPIC THUNDER’ AND THE STUDIO’S ONGOING DISCUSSIONS WITH DISABILITY ADVOCACY GROUPS

“’Tropic Thunder’ is an R-rated comedy that satirizes Hollywood and its excesses, and makes its point by featuring inappropriate and over-the top characters in ridiculous situations. The film is in no way meant to disparage or harm the image of individuals with disabilities.”

“We have had productive discussions with representatives of disability advocacy organizations and look forward to working with them closely in the future. However no changes or cuts to the film will be made.”

-Chip Sullivan DreamWorks Studios spokesperson
