Sorry if these questions have been asked, but I didn't find any threads specifically about these topics...

First, is it ever explained why Kryptonians speak English? Do they not have their own language? You would think that an advanced civilization on a planet far from Earth would not be borrowing a language from us.

Also, in many incarnations of Superman, his suit is relatively indestructible. I'm pretty sure this is because Ma Kent knit the suit from Kryptonian fabric that was in the ship with Kal-El. Is this ever specifically explained in the Donner movies or the 90's animated series?

Thanks a lot.

They don't speak english. The writers only have their diologue written as english because making up a new language is hard and *****y.

Actually, the way it works is this: Part of his invulnerability comes from the fact that hos body's natural bioelectric aura is much stronger than that of a human, serving as a kind of force feild. If he wears anything skin tight, it is protected by said aura.

The language issue makes sense in the comics. However, in Superman II, once the three Kryptonians escape the Phantom Zone, they head straight for Earth and are already able to communicate with people in English.

I don't know if that's still officially canon anymore. It was in MoS, but Birthright says that it's just him having an incredibly dense cellular structure. Of course, BR isn't canon anymore either, so meh.

Also, Kryptonians do have their own language nowadays. In Superman/Batman: Supergirl and Johns/Donner's current run on Action, Kal-El has been seen speaking to other Kryptonians in their native language, while bystanders (like Batman) were unable to understand them. Smallville established a Kryptonian alphabet that was introduced into the canon by Birthright, and it looks like DC is going to keep it for the time being.

Simple: It's a plot hole. Of course, if you want a no-prize for it, I guess you could say that, in the movie, certain centers of the Kryptonian brain have heightened functions on Earth, allowing them to pick up new languages at superhuman speed.

I always thought it was a combination of the two.

here's the Kryptonian alphabet currently in use.
