Well just read on Teletext's big screen page that the torture scene has been chopped up and re-edited so that the film can get it's 12a rating. Apparently close ups of Bonds face, whiping and the genital beating have had to have been replaced, the worst part is the last paragraph explains one of the reasons is that Le Schiffe looks "too saddistic". Yeh right because thats not the whole point! Anyway just thought I'd give the UK Bond fans a headsup

It may very well be the entire point of the scene. The problem is that such things belong in a rated "R" film. If they don't want "R" then they have to fix it before it gets passed by the board. Don't know what the problem is.

Because this is a scene thats been talked about quite a damn bit and even been erm can't think of a better word than bigged up, also the fact it hasn't been cut for the USA version aswell.

For some reason us in the USA couldn't care less if our children watch violence. We just freak out any time the idea of sex is put on film. Which is why some edits were made to some of the more sensual scenes for the US release.

The UK is uptight on violence, the US sex. Besides do any of believe that a PG-13 should have any reference to some man getting his privates repeatedly bashed in?

Well, all hope is not lost. After all, the BBFC website says it has been passed with no cuts!......

That would be because the cuts were made before it was officially shown to the board.

I don't think it's any worse than a bloke going around killing people by shooting them in the head or beating another bloke to death in a toilet.

This is a completely personal opinion, but I think has more to do with how the deaths are handle. Some unnamed character who gets shot off screen or without the wounds being shown doesn't jump to "R". It is when you attempt to make the violence more realistic and personal. 12A/PG-13 is all about what a teenager can take.

I agree with you mate, although Bond beating that bloke in the toilet looks nasty. In all honesty I think with the angle the studio and director wanted to go with this it should've gone with a 15 certificate in this country, but hey I guess money talks and all that

I agree that the beating looks a little to extreme for the rating it has gotten (Attempting to drown a guy in a sink scream 15/R), but they got away with it. And as you said it is about the money.

Just look at the Matrix. The MPAA had little problem with giving the film a PG-13 as long as they took out the two kicks to the head. The bros refused to do so. It really is weird just what these different boards look for when rating a film.

The slapping around of Bonds nads was never gonna make the cut,no surprise there and no big deal either

I posted all this a few days ago in the pg-13 thread.

Sorry my man, my search function isn't working at the moment.

If so, then it's not their fault then, as the thread title suggests!......

The situation goes like this. They showed a few of the BBFC's people a cut of the film before they actually showed it to them to be "certified". Doing so they gave them some suggestions on how to make sure the film passed with a 12A rating.

I know how the BBFC works, I am justsaying that it is not their fault. Responsibility lies with studio execs for wanting a widerage range for the audience. The BBFC gets a bad rap from the public generally, especially considering the good job they've done over the past few years!......
