In what marks the first deal to be made since signing an interim agreement with the WGA, United Artists has picked up the remake rights for the Spanish film[IMG] Time Crimes (Los Cronocrimenes), which will be produced by Steve Zaillian (American Gangster), reports Variety.

Written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo, "Cronocrimenes" is a jigsaw-style thriller about a man who accidentally travels back in time one hour and finds himself facing multiple dangers, including his own doppelganger.

The Spanish movie[IMG], slated to play at Sundance, is being distributed in North America by Magnolia Pictures.

The trade says Zaillian wll likely not write the adaptation but could pen the outline and oversee the writing.

ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting (via BlogdeCine) that David Cronenberg (A History of Violence, The Fly) is a contender to direct the remake of Nacho Vigalondo's Timecrimes. The original Spanish-language film Los Cronocrimenes is a noirish thriller about a man who travels back in time half an hour to prevent a serious crime. Timothy J. Sexton wrote the script for the new version.

And who are they eyeing to star in the redo? Click here for more on this.

I'd be up for Kurt. But he'd better give Mortensen somekinda role. He does so good work with him.

I wanna see the original film asap. Sounds cool. The trailer didn't look like much though.
