Uk has colleges but we don't call our universities college. College is more to get the pre req to get into university.

Actually we sometimes do, e.g. Kings College, University of London. Goldsmiths College, University of London etc. We even call some Universities "Schools" e.g. The London School of Economics (LSE). It depends on a number of factors I can't be bothered to explain, as they are to do with history and sponsorship mainly e.g. "The London Goldsmiths" set up financially Goldsmiths College for the University of London - they were its sponsors.

I lecture at a College which shall remain nameless. Suffice to say it is in London. I went to 3 myself.
