Uruguay votes to Legalize Marijuana

That may be a first. The Netherlands decriminalized it to a certain degree but did not legalize it either.

Looks like I might take a trip to Uruguay

Nice to see somebody has the balls to stand up to the States and it's draconian anti-marijuana laws it pushed on the world in the early 60s

The U.S. was hardly alone in that pushing of the laws and within the U.S. the laws are being chipped away at. It sometimes takes a while to remedy the mistakes of the past.

In my mind their is 3 people I blame for idiotic drug laws

First and foremost by a large margin

1. Harry J Anslinger - he basically set out an all out war to ban marijuana because he was a prude who felt like government should regulate what I take in my body and was upset that alcohol prohibition failed miserably. The 1961 worldwide Narcotics act was basically something he put 30 years of hard work into creating. Ironically you probably can thank him for turning a little known drug into a popular recreation form during that time with all his anti-weed propaganda.

then(reasonably close)

2. Richard Nixon - just as it looked like Marijuana decriminalization was taking steam he basically outright lied about it's effect to pander(put fear into) old people who basically been scared about it's effects by Anslinger pushing how evil it was for 30+ years. It was a cynical ploy to gain votes that has cost the US billions in wasted dollars

3. Ronald Reagan - much like Nixon used Marijuana as a political tool to try scare people into those scary pot smokers taking over the US. The whole "Just say No" was the biggest pile of baloney I ever seen and did nothing more then divide the country(and I would argue intentionally) and help the privitized jails bilk taxpayers out of alot of cash

I would add the major tobacco companies and producers who were concerned about competition. I've always heard this as more a rumor because clearly tobacco companies don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to banning a potentially harmful substance so their objections wouldn't be so public or vocal.

You can add lobbyists of other companies that hemp products might be competition for(timber, oil, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and agriculture). To be perfectly honest I can see Cigarette manufacturers being open to a new product to push

My god can we please legalize this already here in the states, so I can smoke and enjoy myself. I mean this is crazy. I can't smoke and be mellow, a little paranoid but not too bad, but I can drink until I get into trouble. The sad thing is I won't be able to smoke until I quit my job or I turn 60 when they finally legalize it.

It looks like Uruguay is going to be up in smoke. :p

And it's done - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/09/uruguay-legalizes-marijua_n_4415245.html

Uruguay's Senate gave final congressional approval becomes first in the world to fully legalize marijuana trade
passed a law allowing its citizens to grow, buy and smoke marijuana, making it the first country in the world to legalize and regulate cannabis.

Good. I don't use it nor do I want to. Personally I hate the smell of smoke, cigarette or otherwise, but it really doesn't hurt people anywhere near as much as many other legal things so why not?

Some stats:
And

-Over 18 to buy. Need proof of age/residency.
-You can legally buy in pharmacy, product from govt. regulated farms. (organically grown, no chemicals added)
-Up to 40 grams a month.
-At abt. $1 a gram.
-Or you can legally maintain up to 6 plants in your home.

So to the "experts" how does that hold up?
40 grams a month, enough?
Price $1 a gram? Fair?
6 plants? Enough to maintain a good habit?:oldrazz:

What do you have one fully grown you "harvest" from? While the other 5 in various stages of seeding and growth?
