EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. 'WALTER THE FARTING DOG' Aiming for Early 2019 Start - That Hashtag Show

Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular children’s book series, Walter the Farting Dog, is tentatively set to start production in Los Angeles early next with with a modest $30M budget. Warner Bros. is courting Jared Hess, the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, to bring the flatulent furball to life. Studios execs Cale Boyter and Mary Parent are overseeing the project for WB.

Based on a series of books written by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, the rights to the property have changed hands several times over the years. Once developed by the Farrelly brothers at Fox, the IP went to Paramount and, eventually, to Warner Bros. where it went through a slew of writers before the most recent draft by Lana Williams and Carlos Kotkin (Rio 2). This version of the script tells the perpetually gas-passing pooch, Walter, who gets adopted from the pound by a family. The father eventually has enough of the dog and is going to send it back to the pound, when 2 burglars break in and Walter saves the day by unleashing a hideous cloud of gas.
