Didn't see one of these specifically although, willing to merge with the 'Just saw it' thread.

So I came back from watching Wanted Yesterday and I am in two minds about it. One mind about it as an individual film and another mind about how the characters are adapted from the comics and how true they are to their intended forms.

Firstly, as a stand alone movie, it's awesome truelly great. Gibson was awesome, fox was awesome and sloan was awesome as well as Gibson's father as well (although i wished his pretend father did have a moustache though). I could see the twist coming slightly earlier than the average viewer but i did enjoy watching the cinema gasp at the revelation of it all. I liked the way gibson manned up to take them all down (not sure about all the rat stuff though but meh). I also liked the subtle reveal at the end that while they felt they were doing good work, ultimately fate had decided they were the bad guys after all. I only wish more people would have been in on this and fox was none the wiser. I'm glad she had the moral fibre to put herself down as well but then again, i don't know why she wouldn't also put gibson's name down unless his was completely manufactured as well by sloan.

Personally i thought the whole cloth idea was slightly too far fetched for my liking, i was half expecting wesley to go 'are you ****ing serious?'

Gibson made a great change from purposeless man to a man with some goals, great film overall.

Now my issues are with the comic book translation.

In the comics, the themes are about a person who doesn't believe he is capable of anything who ultimately realises he can do anything he wants. in the film I believe, this is somewhat removed slightly and it simply shows he has gifts and now with his attachment to his father, he has something to work towards. Now in the comics, it was his mother who was the catalyst for keeping him pretty downbeat and it was his father who wanted to set him free, while in the film it was his father who wanted to keep him away from the fraternity (with the fraternity messing with him by putting cash into his account).

Now I don't mind about his dad going rogue but he still should have played a part into trying to get gibson to grow a pair and there should have been more insight into his relationship with his mother and their relationship. I'm also not sure wesley's life was down trodden enough for him to truelly embrace his new found abilities and exploit them thoroughly. His aim was more to get back at those who were against his father rather than those against him personally.

Now this may have been a factor of having them simply as assassins of fate rather than supervillains who seized control of the way things are, however i'm not sure if they felt if the audience will feel sympathetic towards folks who have been removed of all senses of moral fibre. I still think some scenes with him getting beaten up and robbed on the way home by hispanics and then beating them up would have been cool.

I still think gibson should have suited up in his high tech gear at least at one point in the film and also should have revelled more in the killing. I do believe the whole chair torture scenes weren't done well enough to show that gibson a soft man had become completely unhinged with taking severe amounts of punishment and also with killing an ally BUT that wouldn't have helped scenes later on when he speaks to fox about her reasons for joining.

One great thing about this film is that they don't uncover everything from the book, it's only six issues long, yet i recon you could squeeze another two films out of it based on how much of it they really used so far. I mean they mentioned other gangs and an international organisation is certainly not out of the question. I mean since sloan is dead, gibson may well be entitled to his own branch as a somewhat crimelord, you could easily write that sloan was just about to become one and then start that whole different lifestlye again. It's also not past them showing fox may have been placed in a regeneration tank or maybe she has 'powers/skills' not shown already in the film.

same goes for mister rictus, the scenes were he dies is when he may truelly realise there is no life after death and starts getting ruthless.

With one film based around the villains taking over and another based on his relationship with his mother, then I don't think this is a bad thing. I still dont really believe the two men shown to be gibson's fathers are actually him, i believe its the grey haired dude and i'd love to see that unravel in the next few films with gibson ultimately killing him in the last one.

As a continuing franchise, I am very very very happy with the product and I think Wanted can go on to do great things. Movie of the summer so far for me and also best character development. I also mention going after the dude who killed the fox's dad (not sure he finally got hit yet) but that would be some cool plot device as well.

oh, and the franternity gun fight is clearly nothing short of insane....

I haven't read the comics, so I have no basis for comparison. As a movie going person I absolutely loved it.

It was funny, exciting, tense, action packed, and all the actors gave solid performances. I went in with no real expectations for it, and it surprised the hell out of me at how good it was.

10/10. One of the best movies I've seen.

im seeing this tonight i cant wait, i need a good action flick

Just got back from Wanted and the only word I can say right now IS ****K, that was ridiculous.

By far one of the superior action flicks that should be remembered for years to come. When everyone got out of the theater we were all out of breath. This film is a sheer adrenalin rush. Very Original, Somewhat Unpredictable.

FINALLY AN ACTION FILM WITH GOOD CHARACTERS.

Wesley Gibson is the man and throughout the whole movie you are behind his back cheering him on. Defintily one of the best if not the best film of the summer right up there with Iron Man. This film has guts and I went in not expecting anything and it punched me in the stomach. The acting was great, special effects were mostly perfect. The only problem i had with the movie was some of the lines were a lil corny but its a comic film and this is just nitpicking. Again go see this film i recommend it to anyone who is in to Action/Gore/Comedy/Drama/ or just going to have fun.

Probaly one of teh best action movies since Die Hard With a Vengeance. If you loved Sin City or SHoot-em Up then go see the years third best movie after Iron Man and Indy 4. This is no movie for the kids and thank god. I can now go see Wall-E for i have my action fix for the year after seein this great movie.
9/10.

just saw it...

favorite movie of the year.
havent had this much fun since Grindhouse

10 out of 10
...sad ending, not expecting a sequel.

This movie rocked hard -- it was also very different than I expected. I enjoyed it, but I think I got my expectations up a little too high. Very cool action, funny movie, and Jolie is obviously gorgeous. Really good payoffs that were very satisfying.

Wanted looks like an amazing film. I truly cant wait for it:yay:

Hmm...everything sounded good until you said after Indy 4.

I'm sorry, i can't give this movie more then a 7.

Great action scenes, good acting from James McAvoy, even liked the soundtrack buuut...

Supposedly a society of supervillains was hard to translate on screen. How the hell did they go from something as simple as society of supervillains to a fraternity of assassins that reads into fabric to find their targets! If I read that in a comic I'd still think it's f-ing ridiculous. An ancient clan weavers discovered... WTF!? Are they like the cashmere mafia or something?

Morgan Freeman was wasted in the movie IMO. So was Angelina Jolie. I just didn't believe either one's interactions with James McAvoy.

Oh... and didn't Wesley's actions sort of inadvertently led to the death of those couple of hundred people on that train? That's enough to make me believe fate really did want him dead.

Very fun film!
Ridiculous plot, but cool as hell. The action was amazing, the dark bits of humor were funny, no crappy love story (more or less), nice message (the question at the end was quite ballsy).
My only gripes are with some too apparent ''influences''. Jumping through the window and shooting like mad in slow motion was too Matrix-y for me. Also, since the message had a very Fight Club feel, the Ikea mention made me roll my eyes a bit :woot: But maybe it was all in the comic and the author is the one to blame :oldrazz: I have no knowledge of the source material.
8/10

a REALLY fun movie that I believe speaks for our time-period. Showing how people nowdays live through piss-poor conditions and yet do nothing, sitting there, wishing for a ticket out of it. I loved it. It missed being a perfect movie for me by a little. Most definitly the best movie I've seen this year. Go see it. It's fun, and also brings something new to the table. EnjoY!!

WHAT?! ROTFLMAO!!!!!

if you get passed the absurdness of the plot then you see a really well done action film

I saw Wanted today,I really enjoyed it and give it an 8/10. I'll for sure being buying it when it's out on dvd.

I read the comics because some of the fans were raving mad about it. The comics aren't the greatest thing ever written. They're OK, but not what some of the fans on here make it out to be.

As for the movie, it was good. They changed somethings that I thought made the comics a good read. The fact that the Fraternity wasn't a clan of superbaddies didn't bug me that much. The movie was good overall. Angelina...Oh my...well, it's Angelina.

Overall 7/10 for both the comic and movie, but I'm kinda on a Angelina high right now so that'll probably change.

I still don't get why his dad would let him lead such a crappy life. Cause it was crappy. There's safe, and then there's crappy.

I never read the comic. So, my review is totally based on the film.

4/10

Some interesting visuals aside, it’s movies like this that give the term “comic book movie” a bad reputation. Unexplained gravity defying flipping cars, curving bullets and rat bombs just push the envelope too far in to the land of the absurd. The easily spotted plot turn does help but the rather uninspiring cartoon action just sinks it. Too many “WTF?” moments in both the action and the plot to enjoy this movie unless you really relate to a frustrated nobody stuck in a dead-end job and you want to fantasize about becoming an assassin. I can’t figure out what was worse, the few Matrix type rip offs or the bizarre Rocky type killer training session? I'm sorry but it's just a bad film, period.

I saw it last night and I gotta give it a 10/10

It exceeded all my expectations and the action was insane. The action reminded me of Shoot em up more han the matrix. Did anyone else notice that Mcavoy sounded alot like Shia Lebouff?

I loved the way the movie took shape in the second half, the first has some great action and dark humour but once the looms and Cross start driving the story it shapes into a really cool sci fi-y thriller. The Fraternity HQ and all it's mystique and quirky inhabitants give the movie a really great atmosphere.

I thought Jolie and McAvoy were great together, Jolie was sexy, cool and in her own way noble and caring as Fox, McAvoy gives Wesley a lot of levels and comes off totally believable as the below average Joe dealing with crazy situations, who eventually becomes an assured assassin.

The bullet effects and the way Timur uses them are a joy to behold, the films editing is stunning and creates amazing, stylish action that you feel apart of, very visceral. The cinematography is also first rate.

The action in the last 35-40 minutes is insane.

The sequence where:
Wesley Goes to the Fraternity HQ and takes them on is one of the most adrenaline pumping, kinetic action sequences Ive ever seen.

The ending is awesome. :D
