Why does this sound an awful lot like Van Helsing with a dash of Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow thrown in? Young, handsome detective from Scotland Yard tracks down Dracula and other monsters as a potential blockbuster franchise?

Why cannot they just adapt the book.

For the record this will have to race to production to compete with the slightly more intriguing sounding: "Demeter:"

Now in pre-production, that focuses on the fate of the ship that traditionally in Dracula films (and....oh yeah....the book) runs aground with a dead crew. That is set to star Sir Ben Kinglsey and Noomi Rapace.

Looks like there is a race in the making.

Facepalm indeed.

It's come to the point where if they don't do the book, I really don't care. The concept sounds intriguing, but would probably be better off not being related to Dracula at all. Make it a vampire film, sure. But not Dracula. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest they scrap this idea totally, and just adapt Kim Newman's "Anno-Dracula" instead. Scotland Yard. Dracula. Jack The Ripper and enough literary and pop. culture references and character cameos to last a geek a life-time.

"Demeter" sounds pretty damn cool though, though I hope it's better than that comic mini-series published by IDW called Death Ship. That was pretty bad.

Hunter Rider beat you to it buddy.

....Blast you and your time-checking logic!!!!

Well at least mine has Harker in CAPS and mentions DiCaprio is producing....plus a comparison to The Demeter.....blast. ;) :oldrazz:

For the record, I do agree with Crimson that at least "The Demeter" has a unique approach to the subject matter and has the potential to be a Victorian Alien type film. Plus Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace are great actors. Harker sounds too much like Van Helsing for my taste.

I really hope Demeter puts this to shame.

Will there ever be a book accurate Dracula film? I've read it and it's still amazing. Sure it won't follow the same 'letter' format but it can have the same narrative. That's why I want del Toro to work on Frankenstein one of these days.

Nice to see Leo trying something new.
